Commercial Description:
Tradition reborn - Eisbock Kraftbier, a beer with patina, over 100 years old, once prescribed as a medicine for weak recovering patients - is currently celebrating its renaissance as URBOCK DUNKEL EISBOCK. Brewed with special dark malt and fermented with traditional Eggenberg yeast, this beer has a maturation period of up to nine months. Dark brown in color with an alcohol content of almost 10% by volume, URBOCK DUNKEL EISBOCK has a pleasant, full, and creamy body, with the aroma of coffe, surprisingly light on the tongue despite the alcohol content. Warming with toffee-like malty sweetness, balanced by a hoppy-bitterness in the finish, it is a power beer, as its traditional Austrian name says, best enjoyed after dinner or as an evening drink.

Bottle: Midnight red. I can smell it from 4 feet away ... like jet fuel. Very strong alcohol, syrupy sugar with a woodsy, barky finish. Smooth and very, very strong.

Pours a medium shade of brown with a thin off-white head. The aroma lots of malts and molasses, some dark fruit (plums), and hints of maple syrup. The flavor also is malty with some molasses and caramel, and also some fruit. The finish is long with tastes of a spicy malt profile and subtle hops - as well as some carbonation zing on the back of the tongue. It is very full-bodied. A little nicer than the regular Urbock 23, which is also a pleasant beer.

Pours a clear deep brown, with a thin tan head. Deep roasted malt aroma that has a sour note to it. I can also smell a bit of prune or raisin in it as well. Tastes almost exactly as it smells. It is fairly heavy, but finishes cleaner than expected.

12 OZ bottle via RegallacMC (thanks). Pours a clear reddish beown with a tiny head. Nose is full of fruity easters and a bit of band-aid. Taste is bittersweet with some hops in the finish and an almost chalky dry finish. Don’t care much for this as the flavors clash too much. Seems like a beer with an identity crisis...

Bottle. Pours dark brown with ruby tinges, with very little carbonation and a moderate off-white head that lingers. Aroma is very sweet and fruity (cherry, dark cherry, berries, plums), plus some toffee and nuttiness, and slightly noticeable alcohol. Flavor is sweet but also somewhat vinous fruit, in a complex combination of all sorts of flavors---same fruits as in the aroma, plus some strawberry and blackberry. A bit of hops, hint of alcohol, and woodiness spice up the generally smooth finish. Smooth mouthfeel with a bit of warming (but little bite or taste) from the alcohol, and a pleasant lingering aftertaste. I like this quite a lot, although it’s my first eisbock, so I can’t really compare it.

i wasn’t looking to buy more beer, but i was at the store, and the voice that controls my wallet said, "Hey, Asshole!!! You can never try enough eisbocks, buy this or i will sing Phil Collins songs in our head all fucking day." so i bought it. it pours a dark brown with hints of red when held to the light and a pastey white head that does not last long, but formed a little foam island that looked to bubble in duvel tulip like a volcano was trying to erupt. aroma, well, syrupy cherry, blackberry, alcohol, marshmallow cream. flavor is nice and chewy with dark fruits and sugared goodness. taste of banana laffy taffy is here, with caramel apples, some light roast and wood notes arise in the finish. some strawberry, and plum flavors are here too. finish reminds me of a wurthers candy. the alcohol is really light on the palate considering the abv. a damn good beer, and much preferrable to phil collins.

Bottle. Poured brown color with an average frothy light brown head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate toffee malty aroma. Medium to full body with a creamy texture. Medium malty sweet flavor with a medium smooth malty sweet finish with a small alcohol bite of long smooth duration. This is a standout beer for the style.
