Smells of nuts, fruits, and alcohol. Taste is sweet and malty with a hint of fruitiness. Not bad, pretty rich. After I drank this i was not feeling like drinking anymore beer. Its nice but I dont think I would go out of my way to find it, nor would I drink multiple bottles of this in a session. eaglefan538 (2403), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 3, 2006 A very nice beer, this one poured a nice translucent dark brown with a small head that gave no lacing. The aroma was of alcohol and grapes, rather vinous. Flavor was consistent with smell although the malty base came through in a creamy fashion. Good stuff, but strong stuff, as the ABV wasn’t "hidden." RCL (1496), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 2, 2006 Not bad, but for the price you might as well get the Kulmbacher or the Schneider. Doesn’t seem like the alcohol is as well integrated as the aforementioned. Caramel with a couple of other dimensions, but nothing to write home about. iowaherkeye (1877), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 25, 2006 11.2zo bottle, no date. Pours a clear brownish red with no head. Aroma of dark fruits, brown sugar, alcohol, a hint of tobacco, and a tinge of sour cherries. Flavor has big sweetness until the finish, which, not to say it’s hoppy, but the hidden hops kill the massive sweetness too keep it from getting cloying. Syrupy, mild carbonation, though the alcohol is evident, doesn’t quite seem like 9.8%. Good, but not as good as the Kulmbacher. ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 1/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 16, 2006 Had a hard time pinpointing the nose on this one. I definitely perceived flowers, and a
light hint of brown sugar. Pours a dark clear garnet, almost brown. Their is almost no
head, what there is lasts only for a blink, before disappearing, it is small fizzy and white.
The high gravity of this offering is well concealed, though not imperceptible. Sweet and
warm all the way through. Very fruity and floral with moderate acidity that leads into a
hint of licorice at the finish. The fully body is syrupy and lively. The brew feels cloying at
the finish. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA

Higly malty aroma with some brown sugar notes and a hint of spiciness. The body is a orange tinted brown and the head starts out a full thumb thick and somewhat tan, but the thickness of the head diminishes quickly. Syrupy feel in the fore along with a super sweet malty base and a sharp jab of hot alcohol. More brown sugar notes...mild chocolate and a hint of caramel/toffee. Some very mild spiciness, but hard to tell where that starts and the alcohol ends. Some very mild nutty notes effect a little dryness, but there is some sweeter hazlenut flavor as well. Very hot for the alcohol, but then 4 years ago this still would have been considered a beast alcohol wise. f351c4v (408), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 8, 2006 Pours a clear, dark reddish brown color with no head. Aroma is sweet and malty, with a hint of spice. Initial taste is sticky sweet, cinnamon and bready (is that a word?). Finish is dry, a bit alcoholic, but tasty enough to make you come back for more. Not too sweet, not too sticky, a decent brew. Sammy (4062), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

It was still interesting drinkable. Chocolate brown appearance with a bit of white head and some chocolate in taste.Boozy, but less opffensive than their other eisbock.
