Draft sample at brewpub. Poured dark brown color with an moderate rocky off-white head that was mostly lasting with fair lacing. Good toasted malty aroma. Medium body with sticky texture. Medium sweet flavor with a spicy sweet finish of average duration. Enjoyable brew.

Draught. At 2006 Michigan Brewers’ Guild Festival. Opaque ruby-brown with a nice large creamy tan head. Boozy aroma, rich sweet toasty malt, nutty. Taste really appealed to me (sue me, I love scotch ales), nice and boozy, really thick sweet caramelized roast malt, sweet fresh grain and dry hops. Thick bodied, boozy and nicely carbonated mouthfeel, medium-long linger - really good, boozy, but not too boozy.

Dark brown small tan head. (3+) Surprisingly roasty with some sweet dark malt in the aroma. Flavour mirrors the aroma, with more sweet malt, long lingering but mild roast. Average to medium palate. (3+) Bit dull but not bad.

Draught at 2006 MBG Summer Festival. Pours a very bubbly dark ruby-brown with an average size diminishing creamy tan head. Malty aroma with some mild smoke, dark fruit and alcohol. Sweet malty flavour with some faint smoke and dark fruit with alcohol and hops in the finish. Medium to full bodied. Well done, this is pretty good Scotch Ale.

Draught sample at MBG 2006 Summer Festival. Dark brown with a small tan head - looks like a porter. Sweet, smoky, malty nose with a chocolate finish - nice! Flavour is mildly boozy, sweet and woody, with a subtle smokiness. Yeah, I can dig this...

Sampled at the Michigan Winter Beer Fest, Lansing. Dark brown body, thin creamy off-white head. Muddled, unrefined malt aroma with hints of brown sugar and toast in addition to alcohol. Started with dark fruits and a pleasant hint of "twigs and berries," but these characteristics faded away into a rather undefined malt sweetness and alcohol tones.

12oz Bottle. Thanks Sean! Flickr(http://www.flickr.com/photos/26049401@N0 Aroma is a pretzel-like bread, crust, and grain. A touch of wet, mineral-laden chocolate. Maybe some faint smoke. Pours a dark, dark mahogany brown, with a nice soft creamy head laying in khaki above. Flavor is underwhelming. A thin, watery mix of ashy-smoked beer and bland brown ale. Mineral imbalances. Alcohol is fairly well integrated, but there’s little sugar to bounce off. Some dense, terse, hard caramels. Tangy. Maybe just slightly infected. A touch of gummy hops. Definitely on the front end of lacto infection. I dunno, this is terrible, but it’s not captivating.

On tap at Schmohz Brewing Company. Dark brown with ruby highlights with a medium tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and toffee with a touch of chocolate and smoke. Flavors include malt, toffee, roasted dark malts and some mild nuts. Mildly dry on the finish. Pretty decent and it’s fun to say Kiss my Scottish Arse.
