WakeandBake (422), Greenville, Michigan, USA Nov 8, 2009 Bottle , ABV printed on front says 5.2% . A hazy deep ruby to brown color body with a thin, short lasting offwhite head . Aroma of dusty grain and a light tang either fruit or wheat maybe both , a light sweetness of some kind and just a hint of spice. Flavor is much the same as the aroma , a little tangy wheat , bread crust and a tiny bit of some fruit like maybe cherries . a nice soft carbonation lightly spicy finish. Light body , clean mouthfeel. The flavors and aromas seem slightly muted , like this would be kick ass if you doubled the grain bill . Not shure what to make of this brew but it was drinkable and pretty good, quite sessionable I drank 4 of my 6 yesterday . I was glad to see the Schmohz offerings show up here at my local Beer store , going to try them all . thehoff (567), Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA Oct 25, 2009 Given to me by my beer distributor. The labels definitely look homemade. The beer is rose to amber with little to no head. Smells tinny, raisin, fig maybe? Definitely different. Nutty leading to a sour feeling and then a dry cardboard feel. Odd. This one is hard to place for me. I get some leather and earth but that tart sourness gets me. Very different. I still feel the cardboard a lot. xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA Oct 22, 2009 On tap at the brewery. Real cloudy dirty brown copper with fizzy white head. Aroma is stinky and sulphury with some nuttiness. Flavor is sweeter sulphur with some banana, toast and nuttiness. Creamy medium to light body with spritzy carbonation. Oh man, oh man. MrBunn (1518), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 14, 2009 Bottle with thanks to coyotehunter. So this has to be the darkest oktoberfest that I’ve ever seen... it is a leathery dark brown with a very minimal head. Aromas of dusty malt, roasted nuts, a bit of leather, some tartness (cherries?) and earth. Flavor is similar, kind of watery and with a bit of a sourness that pokes its head out from time to time. It’s not enough to assert itself strongly, but when you forget about it, there it is... Not bad, fairly unique... RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Oct 13, 2009 Quite dark brown pour for a marzen. Roasted nutty aroma. Peanuts and chocolate: like a Mr. Goodbar. Deep color, yet shallow flavor. Not great. Silphium (2114), Haslett, Michigan, USA May 30, 2007 On tap at Schmohz. I’m glad I just read the description because I kept thinking to myself, "this is a dunkelweizen." Cloudy dark orange-brown body, medium buff head. Caramely body with brown sugar, circus peanut-banana, and clove. Slight medicinal notes. At first this seemed a bit stale, but improved after a few sips. Good heft and complexity. Pleasant. Tmoney99 (4652), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Apr 9, 2007 Draft sample at brewpub. Poured hazy brown color with an average fizzy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate toasted malt aroma. Medium body with soft carbonation. Medium toasted balanced flavor with a medium sweet finish of short duration.
