0.5L bottle, courtesy of Schutzenliesel. Thanks, Tom! Pours a deep, clear brownish-amber color; significant, textured light-tan head with excellent retention and persistent lacing; gorgeous pour. The aroma on this strikes a sort of caramel candy note, or something similar to those hard, root beer barrel candies; not sticky, but a clear candy-like sweet note; definitely root-beer-like, candied; grape soda?; reasonably odd but pleasant. Hehe.. grape soda. And this beer is called "Schmucker." Medium-to-full mouthfeel: lots of caramel, sweet maltiness, and again that grape soda / root beer candy note (I know those things aren’t so similar, but it’s a poignant, one-dimensional sweet note that seems abnormal, to be honest); still, never sticky, crisp enough and pleasantly sweet; not a great doppelbock, but definitely solid and well-made. Lasting finish of root beer, caramel; nicely balanced end.

[bottle] Sweet malt aroma that is spicy and estery (bubblegum) and with sherry and nutty notes. Clear red-brown with a thin, off-white blanket. Sweet, darkish malt flavour that is sherry-like and with some nuts, balanced with a good bitterness. Some oxidized coffee notes as well. Medium body, moderate carbonation, moderately bitter finish.

The bottle looks good, the beer in the glass also. Starts mild, modest malty, high ABV is well hidden. The finish is hoppy and dry, maltiness in the background. Very drinkable for a doppelbock. Not bad!

Bottle. Sweet caramel malt with moderate astringent alcohol aroma. Dark brown color with small head. Raisin malt and astringent alcohol flavor. Not bad - a bit on the rough side.
