If you judge it on it’s own and not to its style it’s quite a nice beer. Port and prune aroma. Amber/orange color, off-white head, good lace. Full, hoppy, orange flavor, bitter, alcohol, sweet. Long lasting little burning finish. Allen (1425), Switzerland
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 31, 2009 Bottled 50cl. Clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma of hay, papaya, biscuit, grapes, candy, dried apricot, wood and gooseberry. Surprisingly fruity. Lovely notes of rose and lavender showing up in the taste. The alcohol is very well hidden. Some caramel in the finish which is reminiscent of dried apricot. A nice heller bock. janubio (159), Spain
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 15, 2007 50 cl. bottle. It pours an amber colour, with a rich creamy head that lasts a good while. Aroma is malty, with caramel and fruits, prunes.
Some brandy flavor but there’s a metalic tone that I don’t like much.
Taste is fruity, sweet, cherries and caramel. fonefan (11888), VestJylland, Denmark

Potent, spicy and dried fruit aroma. Clear amber under a lasting, lacy, tawny foam. Spicy melanoidins dominate a sweet, yet bitter nutty flavour. Good balance and has balls. Not very complex, though. Subtle fruity notes are smothered. Medium to full body, medium carbonation, slightly bitter finish. Solid, but not remarkable. oldrtybastrd (1846), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA

Pours a crisp clear golden orangish color. Aromas of sweet malts and a touch of hops. Flavors of hops malts and something herbal. This one has a little alcohol kick in the tail. Nice! | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 13, 2005 Huge yellow-amber head; yellow-amber beer with, indeed a pale pink shine; very well carbonated. Slight bready nose, also something vaguely acidic. It’s probably the name suggesting, but I’m thinking of rosehips. Sweet, bready taste with a slight retronasal flavour of roasted bread with a disturbing flavour of mint, shortlived. Only medium bodied, fleeting alcohol impression; slick, but not cloying. Unlike the Doppelbock from Schmucker, rather uninteresting beer. Just a fancy name that lured me.
