Color is deep dark amber with ok carbonation an nice head. Taste is light and roasted. Starting with a light/medium body that goes down easy with a crisp feel. Finish comes on with a sweet roasted flavor backed by a very mild bitterness. Its a nice crisp, fresh dark ale. RAYBOY01 (1870), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 2, 2007 I love the style...so I leaned on these numbers a bit. Decent black pour with little tan head. The nose was pretty weak. Flavors were roasted caramel malt with hints of dark roasted character, but seemingly strained through a tea bag. Very thin-bodied and insubstantial...did I just drink a beer...I can’t seem to recall... downender (2645), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England

Aroma:: Slight sulfur note.Med malty aroma with slight chocolate and roasted malt aroma. Low hop aroma
Flavor:Malty sweet roasted malt flavor. Slight dark malt flavor. Low hop flavor. Med hop bitterness. Malt lingers into finish followed by dry hop bitterness. Somewhat low in rich malt flavor for style. Needs more malt flavors.
Palate: Med light body. Smooth mouthfeel.Moderate carbonation. Slightly thin for a Schwarz Bier
Overall: Somewhat lacking in body and malt flavor for a true German Schwarz Bier. Still very drinkable but unremarkable

Aroma of lightly sweet earthy dark caramel malt with a touch of noble hops. Body starts slightly sweet and with mild hints of toasted caramel and light butterscotch. Finishes thin with more light caramel flavor. Fairly true to style. shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA

4/24/2007: Clear, light brown/amber color with a foamy, fizzy beige head. The aroma seems to be a bit lacking. I was only able to find some weak roasted malts (maybe medium crystal malts). There doesn’t seem to be too much in the initial flavor as well. However, after some time it seems to open up somewhat and some medium crystal (light caramel) malt and slight noble/spicy hops are detectable as well as some Irish red beer-like creaminess. Maybe that would be better described as a vanilla-woodiness type of flavor... Some roasted malt flavor and a slight dryness comes through in the finish. The body of this beer is medium-light to medium and it is smooth and clean on the palate. According the to description on the bottle, this beer has "rich creamy foam" and "robust flavor", but I think it is lacking in all regards. Actually, it reminded me more of Blue Moon Winter Ale than of a Schwarzbier!

Nice schwartzbeer. Watery dark brownish red color with a bubbly head, sweet, roasted malt. Weak, but very drinkable.
