rudolf (1554), Buffalo, New York, USA Jun 12, 2008 Bottle from VBM. Hazy gold, lots of visible carbonation and a huge craggy white head. Very nice lacing. Nose is hoppy banana, wheat, yeast. There is a toffee that makes me think of a Belgian golden ale. Flavor is wheat, yeast, tingly hops, alcohol. The alcohol is a bit much - thinning & drying more than I would like. Again, that Belgian maltiness is there in the finish. At the tail end some minerals come out.
KimJohansen (3260), Copenhagen V, Denmark Sep 3, 2008 Hazy amber with medium off white head. Sweet fruity aroma with hoppy and wheaty notes. Hoppy flavor with wheaty and grapefruit notes. tripelthreat (17), Soquel, California, USA Sep 2, 2008 Maybe it was just the light, but a beautiful gold body that faded to copper just underneath a good sized, flat topped head. Melons, lemon and banana backed up by yeasty wheat in the nose. Flavors of citrus, more banana and spice with a touch of bitterness along with smooth sweet malt and wheat. You’d never guess that it was 8.2% unless it warms up a little. Never cloying and a light body for such a flavorful beer. Time to go buy some more. Fantastic. satan165 (113), River Grove, Illinois, USA Sep 1, 2008 nose is an attack of tropical fruits and yeast with character beyond that of a simple weizen. with almost belgian qualities, the yeast brings a storm of cloudiness to the brew’s hue. people talk about fruit notes in beer, and weizens specifically are spoken of having banana notes. well this isnt a note, its a pineapple the size of a football crushed and smothering you! wow! still, this is tempered with an interesting spicyness from the hops that doesnt present itself with typical bittering ideals. in time the source of the spiciness reveals itself to be alcohol as well as hops, which begins its slow but pleasant burn. this is one of the most well hopped weizens ive ever had, maybe #1 in that regard. this is definately the best weizen ive ever sampled, the traditional style while comforting cant touch something of this caliber. at minimum, this is the first hands down ’10’ on aroma ive ever sampled. jfb (42), Freising, Germany Sep 1, 2008 (bottle) hazy golden-orange colour with a cloud of hop particles in suspension and a firm white head, nice lacing. aroma is hop spices, tropical fruits and a hint of alcohol. flavour has a strong tropical fruitiness, most noticeably pineapple and passion fruit, lovely peppery and citric hop spices, fresh malts and light alcohol notes. dry, with a pleasant medium-bitter finish and light citric sourness, full bodied, smooth carbonation. a world-class effort! ChristianScheffel (2103), Odense, Denmark Aug 29, 2008 Hazy golden with a lasting white head. Juicy aroma with pineapple and apricot hops. Dry hop dominated flavour with the apricot dominating.
