Commercial Description:
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940's, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

Bottle. Pours a murky brown. Intense flavors of dark fruits, spice, malts and a warming alchohol finish. Alcohol is hidden fairly well for a 12% abv

bottle, 2005/07167 thanks to swalden_28. this animal poured a murky brown with sediment and absolutely no head at all. aroma of soy sauce, raisins, black liqourice, and dark fruits. flavor had some brown sugar, dates, dark fruits, and alcohol(although masked pretty well). this was low carb and a little dry. good stuff glad BMan1113VR brought this back from cali for my brother.

Well, I love Aventinus and this Eisbock is definitely sharing a lot of the same qualities. The flavor is full of brown sugar, bananas foster and that slightly rough alcohol finish. However, with 12% abv, you can really feel the heat. While not entirely unpleasant, it has the abrasive heat of hard liquor. It’s a nice kick, but taken to such a level that it’s hard to enjoy the palate. Aroma is pretty much same as flavor profile but sweeter. Overall, I’ll stick with aventinus, but still a good boozy brew.

Wow what a great beer! 12%? Hard to believe! Brown pour and a small tan head. Sweet delicious aromas of raisins, prunes, molasses, brown sugar and syrup. Flavor is concentrated, sweet and wonderful. I am glad I have another bottle to drink!!

12oz. From my cellar. Pours orangish brown. Tan head. Nose is very sweet as expected. Taste is sweet and malty and fairly balanced. Not a bad eisbock, very tasty overall.

Bottle @ The Porterhouse, Covent Garden. Many thanks to Pauline for the heads up. Looked a clear ruby colour in the dim light with a nice off white head. Wow, what an aroma, slight oxidization with marzipan, leather, raisins, sultanas, treacle, port, banana, stewed plums, caramel and brandy soaked Christmas pud...it’s just as I imagined. The taste is much the same, notes of stewed plums reduced in port and some heat from the alcohol but nothing I can’t handle. Although, I do feel myself glowing a bit. Lots of yeast in the last pour that adds a few chunky floaties and haze but also some much needed body. Man, I need a night with Utopias, Triple Bock, Mikkeller 黑, Lees Harvest and this, mmmmmmmmmm...

Bottle in the porterhouse. Alround rating: Showing signs of age, dark plum like fruits, oxidised sherry madera wine notes, loads of brown candy sugar like sweetness. Perhaps one of the hardest to drink beers ever, like along the lines of a fresh thomas hardy as its too carbonated, but it is quite tasty.
