Commercial Description:
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940's, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

bottle. pours a deep brown with a small white head. wonderful aroma of banana, citrus, dough, and a bit of spice, mainly clove. taste mimics the smell though a bit subdued. medium bodied with pleasant carbonation. the 12% abv goes without notice. a wonderful drinker if only it wouldn’t put me on the floor after a few bottles.

Bottle. Interesting nose, lots of alcohol presence, light smoke and sweetness. Dark brown with a patchy head. Huge alcohol, but milky sweet character, caramel, and a smooth palate make it surprisingly drinkable.

2007 bottle. You can taste it’s more "alcoholy" than the regular Aventinus. Although I think a little of the full body flavor is lost in the process. I liked the aged (2002) Aventinus better than either the regular or the eisbock-- just really mellowed nicely over 5-6 years. But the eisbock is enjoyable, although I’m not sure I like it more than the Kulbacker Eisbock.

2006 bottle. Not really an improvement, but still a good drink. Pours like the standard Aventinus, with a small, off-white head covering a murky brown body. Aroma of alochol, spices and banana esters. Alcohol masks the great Aventinus tastes, but bananas, vanilla, clove and dark malts still shine through. Mouthfeel is somewhere between syrupy and creamy. Perfect carbonation.

2006 bottle. Pours a muddy, soapy brown with mild dissipating head. Deliciously enticing nose, full of rum soaked raisins, rich toffee, and baker’s chocolate. Sweet and syrupy on the palate, with enough effervescence to carry the strong port alcohol across the tongue, ending slightly drying with a wheaty starchness and a medicinal herbal note. Packs a punch, but is subtle in its delivery enough to keep on sipping pleasantly. A tasty eisbock.

Pours *syrupy* - a murky, muddy brown with almost no head. This certainly isn’t a looker. The aroma is nice - it doesn’t mislead - smells exactly like what it is, a concentrated hef. Sweet, bubble-gummy malts abound. Notes of caramel, maplewood smoke and raisins, too. Tastes *delicious*. This is far better than any other weisen I’ve ever had. It’s thick, and coats your mouth, and what is usually sickly sweet in a weisen is now earthy, with a wealth of dark malts, wheat, caramel and spices. It has a seriously strong and complex (deep!) flavor, but manages to maintain balance. This is one of my new favorites - if nothing else for its novelty, and I’m now very excited to try more eisbocks...

Bottle shared at tasting.
Pours a dark brownish color and smells of strong, sweet and alcoholic caramel. Rich and flavorful, but short of cloying. Taste rich concentrated malt flavor, some toffee like notes and overall pretty good. Surprised by this one.
