| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 28, 2008 2002 Vintage. Bottle No. 12970. 330 ml bottle very, very, generously given to me by Indra. Pour is almost clear deep burgundy with a surprisingly big, 1 1/2 inch tan head. I was amazed that a six year old beer still looked this alive. The head fell quickly. Aroma of dense, sweet, cooking cane sugar along with melting caramel. Also some floral notes, and a round maltiness. Taste is big sweetness, again more of the slightly cooked cane sugar. The maltiness translates to an almost English Barley Wine style biscuit maltiness. A touch of oxidation appears in the after taste, though it detracts in no way from the overall taste of this one. The alcohol really never was present - age apparently helps a lot on this front. The palate was big and sturdy holding all of the big flavors in this nicely. As this warmed (initial temp was about 55) it took on a Tawny Port character which was quite pleasant. I really enjoyed this one, thanks a million Eric! delirium2 (4), ridgefield, Connecticut, USA does not count | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Mar 28, 2008 a good beer. But when it comes to aventinus you cant beat the original. I only suggest the eisbock if you want the extra alcohol or like a really sweet powerfull tasting beer. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 25, 2008 Mud brown pour with a nice inch of foamy tan head. Ultra sweet aroma of plum, banana, caramel, butter, and a little yeast. Wow, much more alcohol in the flavor then the aroma. Initial taste is soft and sweet, with a buttery caramel like body, but the finish is almost straight alcohol. Leaves my mouth numb actually. Lot of spice in there too. rocbyter (928), Waterbury, Connecticut, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 25, 2008 Sweet fruity aroma and evidence of alcohol. Similar to a Belgian. Cloudy dark brown with a large tan head. Slightly bitter in the start then developing a strong sweetness that mellows in the finish. Moderate body. MesandSim (5972), London, Greater London, England
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 25, 2008 A Mes rate: Bottle during Maria’s Ton Up Tasting. Mid amber brown with a slim off white head. Sweet as hell and almost buttery in the aroma. The extra alcohol spoils a lot of what I like so much about the regular Aventinus but it’s still pretty damn good. Very little of the 12% is hidden and strangely enough, the more I drink the more I like... Am I getting drunk I wonder... It’s hardcore but rather lovely in a perverted sort of way. Marzipan, sweet as anything and some big stinging alcohol. Looking forward to trying the bottle I have set aside for aging, I’m sure it will be much better. nate2g (1149), Brisbane, Australia
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 24, 2008 Bottle. Pours a deep dark brown, hint of banana, very sweet flavours, the alcohol has a nice kick and is predominant but still has a smooth finish. Not quite there with the original but a quality beer nonetheless. andyhite (293), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 22, 2008 12 oz bottle. aroma: sweeter malts, juicy like a sweet plum that has been over-extracted. even white grapes and passion fruit show up on the nose, as well as a violet and wildflower fragrance. the appearance yields a thicker brown/earthy hue; head is compiled of millions of tiny bubbles, about avg in size. the taste is quite unique, even for an eisbock. it’s a fruit bomb in the mouth, with elevated acidity; complemented by sweet honey like malts and an alcoholic yet subtly smooth finish with over-ripened berry and bing cherry flavors. this is quite impressive and the alcohol is masked, though does show itself a bit on the finish. nonetheless, it’s quite a clean and scrumptious beer. french tickler (642), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 22, 2008 Shared with Pyrozoid. Murky light brown prune like poor with a thin light brown head. Aromas of brown sugar, maple syrup, alochol, caramel, hints of peppermint, dried raisins... Creamy full bodied, sweet and perfecty balanced mouthfeel. Flavors are mixed dark fruits, prunes, salty, pepper, alcohol induced... Not as great as the original... definitely worthy of my liking. Very evolutive...
