Commercial Description:
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940's, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

Bottle. Pours orange/red with a lasting white head. Smooth and creamy with bannana, cherry and a nice sharp kick that is very well balanced.

2006 Vintage: pretty much on the money. Masses of cola, dark treacle, burnt sugar, bitter cooked fruits on the nose. Aggressive, powerful, has good penetration. A little more one-dimensional to taste as the complexity falls away somewhat in favour of hot cooked malts and aniseed. Notwithstanding I’m surprised this weights in at 12%. Needs time.

330ml from renffisch. Buttery rich malt aroma. Cloudy brown appearance. Flavour is somewhat swamped by excess alcohol and overall, I think the standard Aventinus is a better drink. It ends up being like drinking a rich dark rum!

Bottle. Pours dark brown, Alcohol is not hidden. Nose is maltiness, some fruitiness, subtle. Big malt, molasses, some spiciness in taste. Very crisp carbonation. Warms.

(bottle) Complex aroma, not as aromatic as I had expected. Poured a deep brown-red colour. Sorry didn’t pay attention to the clarity. Almost no carbonation, and therefore poor head retention. First mouthful was smooth and tasted like a staler version of the regular Aventinus. Massively warming alcohol hit made me think I would struggle to finish the bottle (but I did). Just not as nice as the regular Aventinus, especially in this climate. Save it for winter.

A big one... almost too much. Cloudy medium-dark brown pour. Disappointing head. Very complex tastes... malty, sour, fruity... as you can see by the other varied reviews, there are many flavors in here. I got a plummy/figgy/banana fruit and some toffee, malt, and yeast. Nice lingering flavors on the backof the palate.

bottle, thanks to Bochum! Cloudy very dark brown colour, large head. Sweet and malty nose. Intensive flavours of malt, roasted malt, chocolate and a tiny and shy touch of coffee. Hints of berries. A very nice experience.

Bottle # 2004 / 22673. Pours caramel, toffee brown with virtually no head. Floaties everywhere. Aroma: huge! dried fruits, clove, bananas, figs, bread some cherries perhaps. A bit prickly and hot in the mouth. Nice chewy malts. Slightly resembles a barley wine IMO..just a bit. Taste isn’t far off from aroma. Not as sweet as I expected but every bit as boozy. Not overly thick or syrupy but it is sticky. Not bad overall.
