Commercial Description:
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940's, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

Flaske.

While, I thought The Weizen-Eisbock was a solid beer, I was a little disappointed, considering the original Aventinus is one of my favorite beers. It poors a deep brown with a foamy head. The aroma is pleasant and complex, but not strong. The flavors were relatively mild and lacked complexity. Hid the alcohol well.

500ml bottle. Clear reddish brown body with a beige head. Aroma is malty, marzipan, dry fruit and alcohol. Flavor is also sweet malty, dry fruit and warming alcohol. Quite impressive.

Hazy brown hue, with a frothy beige head, leaving laces, yeasty bananaish nose, with some toasty, wheaty, clovey notes, with a nice spicy vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg accent, with some good dried dark fruity aromas of fig, plum, raisin and ripe apple, follow through on a medium-bodied palate with a smooth, yeasty banana character, with some toasty, wheaty malts, with a nice spicy accent of cloves, cinnamon, some good caramelized ripe apples, some figgy, raisiny and plummy fruitiness, with a mellow warmth mouthfeel, leading towards a sweet malty, fruity, spicy, warm finish.

This is an incredibly good beer. It has a beautiful velvet head and a rich, thick, dark consistency that borders on being a syrup. It’s extremely high in alcohol, but you’d never know it from the taste. It’s bold and full bodied, thick one the tongue and quite sweet. If you’ve ever had a normal Aventinus, you can basically multiply that by 1.5 and that’s what you get here. Nice banana, hickory, smoke sausage, molasses, port and maple syrup undertones. It’s increasingly complex as it warms up. If I had it my way, this beer would certainly be in the top 50, a must try!

500ml Bottle: Excited! I love the regular Aventinus so I can’t wait to try this one. Pours a dark brown and red, not much in the way of head for me. The aroma is almost as rich and satisfying as the Aventinus with that port wine, black cherries, and pumpkin spices alongside the newfound yeast and prevalent alcohol notes. The flavour is milder than I expected with all that was promised but in somewhat muted tones, but an obvious kick of alcohol that leaves it less enjoyable than Aventinus, but good regardless. I’m looking forward to aging one and trying it again down the road!

Pours dirty brown with lots of floaties and clouds. Strong off-white head that lasts. Banana bread, cane sugar, yeast, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, and cake batter fill the nose. Rich, full mouthfeel and taste. Great balance between the wheat and banana / yeast esters and spice. A great winter beer.
