Commercial Description:
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940's, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

Tasted in Toronto. From Chimay chalice. Pours same brownish, muddy, purple colour as Aventinus Weizen (AW). No head. Cloudy..,.(n)ice.. After an initial sampling, I felt this was simply an H2O evaporated AW. On second sampling I did a full 180. The aroma, flavour and impact of the alcohol are exponentially more impactful than AW. Its like AW on steroids. My goodness.

Pours a murky brown with a diminshing beige head. The aroma is sweet, raisins being most prominent, with some notes of alcohol, and licorice. The flavour reflects the aroma, with very sweet notes of raisin, a warm alcohol feeling, and a tasty licorice finish. A damn tasty brew.

This eisbock poured a cloudy deep brown colour with a nice creamy tan coloured head. To the nose you could get scents of alcohol, raisen, ripe fruit and cream. First taste was very strong tasteing with a strong alcohol flavour flollowed by a kind of weiner yeast taste. Thats right weiners. Some ripe fruit and raisen flavours with spices. The finish is very perfume / floral tasting with hints of more spice and yeast. The palate is sweet with a lingering flavour of floral honey. Slightly bitter flavour at the very end.

Cloudy brown brew with a tight head. Aroma of raisins and bread and a surprisingly delicate and sweet taste, that improves as the beer approaches room temperature. A great bock to sip on a cold day. Nice mild lingering flavour that reminds of a GOOD fruitcake. Absolutely superb.

Plumb, raisen, alcohol aroma. Tan head and medium brown body. This doesn’t taste like a 12% beer, but you feel it. Very full sweet malt flavor with nice soothing finish. Quite nice.

(5cL bottle from Barrie, Ontario) Strong, heavy beer, as an Eisbock is supposed to be. Pours a dark, cloudy, thick stream with a nice head that would probably have ended up nicely if I had tried to make it good in a proper glass (using a pilsener glass unfortunately). Head is white; lacing is reasonable but not as thick as it should be for a beer this strength, in my opinion. Alcohol is noticeable, but only to an aficionado of strong -bocks; makes itself known through the palate. Spicy citrus notes similar to a Belgian witbier are to be expected. Initial sweet flavour becomes increasingly salty as time goes by; finish is very long and astringent at first.

Dark brown with a thin white head with some lacing but poor retention. Aroma is banana, cloves, butterscotch, sweet malt and raisins, but you could never tell this is a 12% abv, there is almost no alcohol in the aroma. Flavor is similar to the aroma, although it is sweeter, with some yeast, but still alcohol is very subtle for a 12% beer. Mouthfeel is creamy with a full to medium body and a medium carbonation. A very good winter beer.
