JK54B (913), Helsinki, Finland May 13, 2009 A 0.5L bottle from Alko.Sweet nose with some banana. Pale beige head. Hazy dark orange reddish colour. Sweet slightly applelike syropy and fruity taste. Mild hoppiness. zizzybalubba (335), Elizabeth City, North Carolina, USA May 12, 2009 500 mL bottle from Total Wine. Dark orange pour with a thick and creamy off-white head. Aroma of bubble gum, yeast, and sugar. Taste of raisin, cloves, and caramel. Ever so slightly sour finish. An excellent representation of this style. viet959 (68), , Georgia, USA May 10, 2009 Pours Murky brown-amber with a dense medium tan head. Aroma - Lots of clove, yeast, and caramel. Taste - clove, yeast, & caramel malts finishing off with some bitterness. Overall - This is a great beer that hides the 8.2% very well. It’s very drinkable and and has a very creamy mouth feel would definitely drink this again. It’s a real tough decision but I think I’d go with Ayinger Celebrator as a winner though both are great beers. Aventinus is just too strong on the cloves and it cover most of the other flavors, although the smell if Aventinus is better. But in the end you drink the beer more than smelling it. Hudspart (371), Hudsonville, Michigan, USA May 8, 2009 Great beer. Pour dark with a very small head. Aroma of fruits and spices. Some cloves in aroma. Flavor same as aroma. Very good. FestiveAle (3), USA does not count May 8, 2009 Hazy, rocky head, fruity aroma. Caramel and yeast aroma and taste. Very drinkable. an excellent beer. stobbe74 (655), Denmark May 8, 2009 Bottle, 50cl. Pours an ambercolored beer with a firm offwhite head. The aroma is fruit, alcohol, raisin/plum and cloves. The flavor is malt, hay, alcohol and fruits. The palate is bold with a good carbonation. Good bock. bblack99 (195), Kansas City, Missouri, USA May 7, 2009 500mL pours a slightly cloudy reddish-amber with loads of white head, probably 3 fingers. Strong carbonation leads to plenty of champagne bubbles to keep the frothy head alive.
Strong aroma of sour fruit like lemon with plenty of summer wheat or rye. Starts smooth with a bold sour aftertaste and a dry finish. Dissolves across the palate, with a bit of a soapy feel. Surprisingly astringent for only having 8% ABV. malrubius (969), Valley Stream, New York, USA May 3, 2009 500 ml bottle in weizen glass. Cloudy reddish brown with lasting soft head and lace. Strong banana bubblegum and clove aroma. Richy fruity flavor with mild caramel and tangy bready wheat finish. Medium-full body and creamy texture. Definitely a classic. Awesome. I’ve had this many times, including at the taphouse just off the Marienplatz. I’m glad I didn’t rate the grungy bottom-of-keg pour that I had last month at BT.
