Commercial Description:
Dark ruby, glistening mysteriously, streaked with fine, top-fermented yeast, this beer has a compact, stable and long-lasting head. It has an intensive, typically top-fermented clove-like aroma. The palate experiences a gentle touch, on the tongue it is very full-bodied, compact and yet fresh with a hint of caramel. It finishes with a light and delicate taste of bitters leaving behind a strong, smoothly rounded, sour impression.

nose of weizen yeast esthers, but more subdued or subtle then even some regular-grade weizens. the flavor reveals why some of those aromas are stifled: nearly opaque ruby appearance leads to flavors of pit fruits and dark herbal qualities. mouthfeel remains just as smooth and feathery as a regular weizen, but with amped up flavors that go beyond the somewhat sweet and airy notes typically found. the dark apperance defies the easily likable interior of esters and love laced fruits. i had the eisbock before this (which i enjoyed immensely) but i feel like i just took a weight off my shoulders, for this is so drinkable i am staggered as a result. overall maybe a fresher specimen would have provided greater fruits as i have experienced in other weizen bocks but this still sits in a very comfortable position amongst the greatest beers i know of, and one i will be returning to soon and often.

1 pt .9 fl oz bottle. Pleasant and airy aroma that noticeably adds well with the tasting experience as it kind of fires up the nostrils with every sip. Slightly more clove and spice notes in the smell than expected. Banana a strong player too, brown sugar, caramel-toffee cookie dough, as well as minor bubble gum. A very pretty beer as the pour is great, nice inch and a half of part fluffy cream and part wispy milk head, a nice layer of retention, full body appearance, dark golden amber in color. The flavor profile is more heavy weighted toward the malty dopplebock side of the brew, something that the aroma would suggest otherwise. A good amount of caramel cookie, mild fruits, yeast, and pears, with the more spicy, clove, and wheat grain elements fulfilling more of a background role. Some citrusy and grassy bitter elements come into play here maybe alittle more so than in the eisbock version. The mouthfeel was not as nice as i was expecting from a beer this highly regarded. It was not bad, but a little too much carbonation. Balance was good, but the flavor profile overall to me also did not come together as well as in the eisbock. So I would have to say I’m alittle disappointed with this offering, but its still a very good beer overall. Maybe I will need to rerate sometime in the future.

A superb, full-bodied German brew. Smells like banana, tastes like caramel, feels like staccato tuba music.

Pours a murky brown with a hint of rust in coloration. A thin slightly white head. aroma is very sweet, the presence of alcohol easily noted. Caramel and syrup are distinguishable in the aroma. Pleasant flavor malt leads to a beer with less sweetness than the aroma suggests. In all its complexities it is still a very simple brew

On tap at the Blind Tiger in NYC. Poured a nice dark brown with a big foamy generous white head. Aroma was sweet malt, a little sourness, some clove, banana. Flavor was a bit more of the same with a nice full sweet mouthfeel. Kind of bready. Nice beer.

Typical nose of banana and clove, some cinnamon-like spicyness comes through and fresh white bread. Hazy brown, nice head, thins quickly. Spicy and phenolic in flavour with some fruit, also some caramel, with a touch of sweetness that finishes with a light tartness. Medium body and carbonation. Quite nice.
