GJF (480), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA Oct 11, 2008 Very well done. Rich malty aroma. Lots of wheat and yeast in the flavor, with clove and banana and raisin, and a creamy body. The sweetness becomes a little too much as it goes on, but this is a good beer. wheresthepath (523), Buckinghamshire, England Oct 9, 2008 Updated: Dec 20, 2008[500ml bottle at the Royal Standard of England, Beaconsfield] Gorgeous branded glass with this one. Chestnut black with a large beige head. Some carbonation - I would prefer a little less, but it’s in no way excessive. Tatses of raisins, prunes, figs, treacle, cloves, orange, plums and all things Christmassy (um... apart from turkey...). Like Christmas pudding in a glass - you could imagine using this as a sauce to go on your desert. Despite the sweet, rich flavours and the high ABV, this beer surprisingly does not leave a sticky mouthfeel - although I swear I could still taste . Very very good indeed as a winter dessert beer - although not something I’d particularly want on a summer afternoon! Very impressive stuff! c9
tedovertu (259), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA Oct 8, 2008 Raisins, prunes, and apple in the aroma. Small off-white fully diminishing head. Small floating particles. Dark clear amber color. Moderately sweet initial flavor. Medium bodied and a lightly astringent finish.
Great beer. hobbersr (393), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Oct 8, 2008 Pours a very dark purple with a thick head. Smells of grapes and spices. Tastes of raisins, spices and a pleasnat bitterness at the finish. Really good, complex beer. pj1855 (154), Eagan, Minnesota, USA Oct 7, 2008 Updated: Oct 8, 2008Pours a dark amber color. Fizzy off white head that quickly diminishes. Sweet spica Aroma. Excellent mouth feel on this beer. Very smooth. Fairly sweet through out wth a lightlly astringent finish. Lively carbonation. kiwibt (51), , New Zealand Oct 4, 2008 Bottle, Pours a cloudy brown with a large lasting head. Aroma of cloves, chocolate and slight phenolics.
Flavour is a very good balance of chocolate, caramel.
Overall a very good beer, the 8 % alcohol is well hidden and the wheat sourness balances the chocolate body.
Very well made. adjdleon (1), , Alabama, USA does not count Oct 4, 2008 Bottle. This is a great beer with a perfect hint of caramel and sweetness, and good alcohol notes near the end. One of my favorites upon arriving home from work.
esox (259), Oulu, Finland Oct 2, 2008 Bottled. Porus hazy amber to brown. The large head really looks nice: smooth and creamy. The aroma is full of malty sweetness, earthy yeast and lots of dark and sweet fruits like dates or raisins. Banana esther is luckily not that overly presented. Delicate spiciness especially int he finish with clear cloves aroma and less obvious peppery tones. Alcohol is barely noticeable in taste but it warms up nicely. Tha flavor is sweetish wheat-malty and with brown sugar or syrup. More sour towards the finish due to yeast and fermented fruits. There´s also light bitteration in the finish. Palate is full bodied and amazingly soft. Carbonation is just perfect: it´s enough to give some spine without being fizzy at all. Leaves sticky syrupy feeling on your lips. You can easily tell by palate that this is a strong beer but still... 8,2 ABV?! Amazing. Aventinus really is a magnificent combination of complexity and supreme drinkability.
