EHopper (274), Minnesota, USA Aug 31, 2008 The aroma was like some exotic over ripe fruit fermenting on the damp ground in a dark forest. The flavor added a sour malt/sour mash liquor flavor. Very luxorius feel in the mouth. Definitely a beer to turn to in this category. Imperial-John (154), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Aug 31, 2008 Updated: Sep 3, 2008Murky brown with big bubbly beige head that quickly thins. Love the thin lines of bubbles going up the glass. Strong yeasty banana aroma. Strong bubbly malty, dark fruit, banana, spicey, yeast taste. BeerBitch12 (16), , Oklahoma, USA Aug 31, 2008 Caramelly, coffeey, nutty, spicy in aroma...a nice dark brown with a red tint, just a little hazy, like an early morning before the dew has evaporated....just sweet enough for me, not too bitter, for I am a shrew that hath a bitter tongue already, with just a touch of sourness...very light bodied to me for a dark beer...smooth and slick like satin when it touches your lips and slips around your tongue and down your throat like angel’s tears...finishes clean and fresh, with nothing bad lingering...
My favorite thus far in my drinking career. craftycarl21 (510), South Hero, Vermont, USA Aug 30, 2008 Updated: Jul 22, 2009pours an extremely dark brown with red tints, moderate head. Malt, plum, dark fruit, cinnamon, and raisin are all over the nose. Flavor is very similar, but extraordinarily good- the dark sweetness is phenomenal. Palate is ever so smooth. Very unique and delicious brew. oteyj (713), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Aug 30, 2008 Pours dark ruby brown with one finger beige head. Aroma is a malt assault- chocolate and raisin, date and plum. Flavor had every malt facet covered- creamy, chocolate, and loads of dark fruit- without the roast. Palate is sticky and smooth. Wondrous. punainen6 (93), Finland Aug 30, 2008 Bottle. Rich gray head and a dark brown color. Aroma has earth, bananas and clover. Really nice thick flavor of banana and plums, also that nice bite from the actual alcohol. As it warms up also more of the pepper flavor finds its way out. Just excellent beer. NomDeBeer (397), Maryland, USA Aug 30, 2008 Cloying malt sweetness and too much alcohol. Doesn’t even look good; ugly brown color. I can’t get into this one. wyzzywyz22 (754), Wirral, Merseyside, England Aug 29, 2008 Bottle, Beer Ritz, Leeds. Poured a dark reddish brown with a big ol’ white head which lingered nicely. Aroma was clove, banana and yeast. Flavour was dark malt, chocolate, spice, plum. Creamyish mouthfeel. Mild sweetness with some bitterness in the finish. Could well be one of the best tasting German beers I’ve had thus far, but can’t help thinking this is a tad over rated on here.
