hillfiiiiire (283), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jul 16, 2008 Looks amazing. Dark caramel body with a nice fluffy white head. Cloves and caramel malts in the nose. Taste is wonderfully sweet and quite strong. No bitterness at all. Finishes nice and light. Very tasty weizen. drfood (17), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 15, 2008 on tap at the devil’s den, philadelphia. huge glass, inspiring head. what makes this beer so loveable is the combination of summery crispness and luscious grainy fullbody with a bracing spicy finish.
this is a beer that truly caters to summer without surrendering to wimpiness.
a second glass from the same source was duller and under-carbonated, but i’ll rate the best and assume that’s typical of the brewer’s work. Tweety (336), Vancouver, Washington, USA Jul 15, 2008 On tap, Jacob Wirth’s. This is a beautiful beer. This style (of which I am a huge fan) executed to perfections. A nice brown, with a great head. Banana and cloves in the aroma and taste, goes down real smooth, just a superb beer all-around. Borresteijn (1347), Amstelveen, Netherlands Jul 15, 2008 Bottle from Cracked Kettle, @ home. This is something different. Hazy brownish colour, nice head.Smell of banana, alchohol, liquorice, some dark fruits. Taste is liquorice, malts, candy sugar, dark fruits, a bit sour. Prickling finish. Creamy mouthfeel. Not my taste but it does stand out. ajm (902), Los Angeles, California, USA Jul 15, 2008 Tap at Lucky Baldwin’s. First: the head on this is just silly, and the goofy glass didn’t help: it was like three inches of marshmallow cream; the most dense head I have yet encountered. That sentence was needlessly prolonged by my choice of punctuation. Secondly, anything called ’weizen’ or ’weiss’ should never be this color, so it was confirmed that I’d be surprisingly intoxicated on finish. Third, the color belies its non-roastiness; this is almost like a dark Flemish red. Very surprising. chops (60), Brantford, Ontario, Canada Jul 12, 2008 Long lasting head. Never a bad thing. Pleasant aroma, but a very delicious flavor. Definitely a beer I will purchase again. Cheers to Weissbierbrauerei G. Schneider & Sohn. jeremyd365 (109), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Jul 11, 2008 Poured into a big glass from an 18 oz bottle. Poured a thick, nutty brown with a foamy off-white head. The smell was all banana and cloves, which seemed to mask the wheat but it was quite a pleasant aroma. The flavor was much like the smell, but without any one flavor being too overwhelming. It’s medium-heavy body was smooth and delicious all the way down. Definitely recommended. robbsys (1), , Connecticut, USA does not count Jul 10, 2008 The first time I tried this beer on tap, I was blown away. Never have I had a beer that was such a pleasure to enjoy.
Flavor contains a rich fruitiness that would best be described as a combination of raisins and well ripened apples. Initially very complex, giving way to fruit flavors, followed by just the lightest tangy bitterness. Just a hint of sourness.
Aroma is strongly clove like with a hint of apple cider, and chocolate.
Mouth feel is well carbonated and complex - makes you want to hold it in your mouth to enjoy all the flavors before swallowing, but a little bit thick.
Taste is an explosion of well balanced flavors, I’m getting a bit of ripe cherry, apples, raisins and caramel.
Highly recommended. Can be purchased at CT Beverage Mart in Newington, CT, also available in bottles at The Half Door in West Hartford, CT. First tried it as it was rotated on tap at Eli Cannons in Middletown, CT.
Well worth the $3.50 for a bottle as you won’t be disappointed. The beer changes flavors and characteristics throughout the whole drinking experience.
Color is a rich Amber brown giving way to a reddish cloudy brown under light. Because it’s bottle fermented, some solid particles floating around are normal. Pours a nice thick head with good lacing.
One finely crafted brew with well balanced complexity that raised the bar for all other beers I’ve had.
