robbsys (1), , Connecticut, USA does not count Jul 10, 2008 The first time I tried this beer on tap, I was blown away. Never have I had a beer that was such a pleasure to enjoy.
Flavor contains a rich fruitiness that would best be described as a combination of raisins and well ripened apples. Initially very complex, giving way to fruit flavors, followed by just the lightest tangy bitterness. Just a hint of sourness.
Aroma is strongly clove like with a hint of apple cider, and chocolate.
Mouth feel is well carbonated and complex - makes you want to hold it in your mouth to enjoy all the flavors before swallowing, but a little bit thick.
Taste is an explosion of well balanced flavors, I’m getting a bit of ripe cherry, apples, raisins and caramel.
Highly recommended. Can be purchased at CT Beverage Mart in Newington, CT, also available in bottles at The Half Door in West Hartford, CT. First tried it as it was rotated on tap at Eli Cannons in Middletown, CT.
Well worth the $3.50 for a bottle as you won’t be disappointed. The beer changes flavors and characteristics throughout the whole drinking experience.
Color is a rich Amber brown giving way to a reddish cloudy brown under light. Because it’s bottle fermented, some solid particles floating around are normal. Pours a nice thick head with good lacing.
One finely crafted brew with well balanced complexity that raised the bar for all other beers I’ve had. TheGent (143), , Massachusetts, USA Jul 7, 2008 A wonderus brew. pours a strange brown slightly hued purple. Thick headed beer that allows for every sip to come through a cloud of bubbles. The smell had the typical yeast but also contains a ginger/clove smell. The taste is clean and refreshing. Slight sweetness made a friend who i shared this bottle with say it was "root beer" like. But most spectacular is the palate with a superb carbination that seems to make the flavor envelope the entire tongue. villevav (7), Finland does not count Jul 7, 2008 Thick dense head. The aroma is malty and sweet with hops, alcohol, cocoa and a hint of citrus. The mouthfeel is rich and has a pleasant carbonation. weaselkenievil (738), Cheshire, England Jul 5, 2008 Updated: Jun 24, 2009Immense. Loved it. You know how some beers seem to really get you away with a mixer? This is one of them . Alcohol hidden perfectly but packs the punch. Like a shy girl you get her clothes off and boom, absolute nailageness. Dark caramel kind of colour. Kicks the fuck out of any wheat I’ve had so far. Shit fucking hot. 502Flavors (617), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Jul 3, 2008 16.9 oz. bottle into pint glass. Pours a nice dark and hazy honey brown with an active and tall white head that doesn’t leave much lacing. It smells like a typical wheat beer with a spicy (a bit of nutmeg), slightly citrus and banana-y body. Flavor is soft and refreshing, as par usual with wheat brews but with some unique subtleties including banana on the gulp and a grape/cherry flavor on the finish. The alcohol is hidden remarkably well. It is light bodied with tingly carbonation on the palate. Overall: great refreshing brew that is dangerously drinkable. Great for the summer. redgold07 (308), Irving, Texas, USA Jul 2, 2008 Pours a dark red-brown color with a bit of a white head. Aroma is a bit spicy... some clove with a little yeast and sweet nodes. Flavor is of yeast, spice, alcohol, but also sweet of caramel, slightly bitter too.
1 pt. 0.9 oz. bottle. IDunno19 (78), Ames, Iowa, USA Jul 1, 2008 Updated: Mar 26, 2009The aroma is gorgeous, spicy and fruity with a hint of port wine. Pours a deep chocolate brown with a pillowy white head. Flavor tastes of berries, spices, port wine, and chocolate with a hint of caramel. Absolutely amazing and worth the purchase.
Update (3/26/09): Recently had again. The complexities of this beer are overwhelming but the accessibility makes it truly quaffable. Amazing beer. gueuzeisgod (109), Graham, North Carolina, USA Jul 1, 2008 500ml bottle- nice tenacious, lasting head. Mahogany color. Yes, the clove is right out front, but backed up by some dried apricot, fresh cooked oatmeal, sweet stewed prunes. As it warms up the yeast character reminds me of St.Bernardus Abt 12- it’s like a freshly washed fuzzy blanket that has been dried with a fruit scented fabric softener(!?!) Taste is a nice amalgam of the aforementioned aromas, they dance a bit, then bow out for a finish that is the opposite of cloying (unexpected but very nice, makes an otherwise sweet beer very drinkable) Alcohol shows up in the nostrils after a few sips, but is not harsh. I don’t see how this style could be improved upon very much. Easily blasts through the 4 barrier.
