leroyneiman (9), Nashville, Tennessee, USA does not count Jun 23, 2008 Deep brown-red colour with a thick white head. The aroma is really complex, there is spices, clove, apple, banana, alcohol... It is full bodied, taste is very complex too, with spices, clove, banana and caramel, really malty. Excellent beer overall. The 8% of alcohol is well hidden. gonzo46and2 (108), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 23, 2008 Appearance - Pours a dark reddish brown. Big rocky head.
Smell - Aroma is sweet brown sugar and carrots, Whole grain Bread, Dark fruit esters. Not much detectable Alchohol.
Taste - Bannanas, clove, and grains were at the front flavor. Low alchohol taste and pretty complex.
Mouthfeel - Moderatly dry. Long lasting finish. Pretty heavy.
Drinkability - Totally drinkable for the gravity and alchohol content. Very sneaky beer.
Poobah (101), New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Jun 23, 2008 Nice head that remained for the duration as a light ring. Reddish-brown color. Sweet, fruity nose with a touch of clovers. Malty somewhat carbonated intro with a super smooth mouth that transitioned to a milk chocolate and malty finish with hints of overripe bananas. The alcohol is present but not cloying. Some smokiness is detectable in the aftertaste. I forgot how good this beer is. I felt like I was in Germany and Austria again. wcampbell (572), Central, South Carolina, USA Jun 22, 2008 Updated: May 20, 2009Incredible beer. Extremely complex, I don’t know where to begin. First of all, there was none of the syrupy sweetness that I was worried about. The beer starts off with the lightly sweet taste of plums, spices, bananas, and some vanilla and yeast. The finish is lightly bitter and lingers. Very carbonated. Highly drinkable for a strong beer. Full bodied and full flavored. No alcohol taste. basewars (144), Albany, New York, USA Jun 22, 2008 Bottle from Westmere in Albany. Pours very dark brown with great carbonation. Tastes of banana bread. Alcohol is well hidden.
One of my favorite beers. BuckeyeSammy (454), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jun 20, 2008 Updated: Aug 14, 2008Update rating: 2002 vintage. So many layers of flavor on my palate. A lot of fig and prune, malt, and spice, chocolate? Alcohol present on the nose. a lot of sediment.
serious meaty yeast nose, coriander spice. Darker color then I had expected, thick head. Fruits, not necessarily dark, belgian style hops, coriander spice, malty notes, meaty yeast for sho. So enjoyable sleepylopes (313), New York, USA Jun 20, 2008 meaty like a jerky. Would be great with brisket. Smoky sweet notes and a touch of banana corieander. Smother and richer in body than expected. Ruby mahagony light lace and a nice head. urraca (44), New Jersey, USA Jun 19, 2008 Absolutely amazing. Easily in my top 3 beers. I love wheat based bears, and this is up near the king. So smooth, so flavorful, sweet notes and finishes very clean. I’ll be buying a case.
