Goodgrief (1144), Middletown, Delaware, USA Feb 3, 2008 It’s hard not to be affected by the hype, but this beer has lots of hype and I was eagerly anticipating this one. Aventinus pours darker apple cider brown color with a huge head that dissipates very quickly. Bananas and clove are readily present in this one (lots of banana). Beer really sweetens as it warms as banana flavor goes nuts with some bubblegum thrown in. Increases in complexity dramatically as it warms. grandet (477), Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 3, 2008 Bottle. Very nice dark brownish pour with a ncie medium head. Smell is of banana and clove. Taste is of banana and strong clove. Quite light and refreshing. Veeks (8), USA does not count Feb 2, 2008 good color...hints of cherry and fruit give it a nice flavor but on the palate this particular one left a heavy taste like that of a hint of cough syrup...not enough to throw the batch away, but noticeable nonetheless SlayerofBeers (8), Lakewood, Ohio, USA does not count Jan 31, 2008 A great beer overall. The pour is a gorgeous deep ruby/amber color. The head is a wonderfully thick and frothy off white. The flavors are a complex mix of yeasty bred and caramels with slight citrus hop notes underneath, and a hint of plum? The aftertaste is something that not many people will forget. Nice and smooth with just about the right amount of carbonation. It does leave a bit of a stickyness in your mouth as part of the after effects. Tiboron (13), Florida, USA Jan 27, 2008 500ml from fourwinds,pensacola...smooth as slik and flavor for days...like the eisbock better but still not one to miss... Rotorhead87 (117), Temple, Texas, USA Jan 26, 2008 Pours a dark brown color with a large tan head. Has a wonderful malt-wheat aroma. The taste is a wonderful blend of bock and weizen (imagine that!) that works amazing well. I love dunkelweizens, but this is even better. illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Jan 26, 2008 Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a Rogue pint glass.
Gorgeous off-white head of 2 fingers. Beer takes on an appetizing dark caramel hue.
Smells like BANANA BREAD. Banana from the wheat, bread from the malt: literally smells exactly like banana bread.
The taste follows the smell but carries some spiciness and a hint of maple syrup. The 8.2% alcohol becomes apparent as the beer warms.
This beer strikes a balance between the warmth of the alcohol and the refreshingness that comes with any good weissbier. Leaves the mouth a bit sticky though.
Less drinkable than a hefeweizen, more drinkable than a doppelbock, imagine that! Wish there was a 4.25 for this category, but gave it the benefit of the doubt. thekmoonlegend (93), Lynn, Massachusetts, USA Jan 26, 2008 Updated: Jun 1, 2009Pours dark cloudy prune color, decent head for the style. Flowery, fruity, yeasty aroma. Tastes of fruit (specifically pears) and yeast combine with a champagne consistency to make for a unique experience. Good beer.
