The aroma is a bit like standing in an old fashioned sweet shop set in the middle of a vast spice market in some forgotten land. Pours a deep, burnished copper with an off-white head that disappears fairly quickly. Getting a mouthful of that head before it goes is highly recommended. Flavours of clove, nutmeg, banana, yeast, vanilla and liquorice are all present and while the alcohol is detectable it is very subdued. One of the best doppelbocks in the world and one of my own favourite beers. carruthm (1121), Seattle, Washington, USA

Brown amber color with a big yeasty aroma of spices, ester, banana and cinnamon. Taste was a great balance of sweet from the aroma and a gentle hop bitter. Bejaaamin (110), London, Ontario, Canada

Bananas! wheaty, clove, cinnamon, nutty. Goes down brilliantly! Very refreshing and bright mouthfeel. Complex flavours, banana, spices, heavy chocolate, much much more, very, very good! Love it. Must get more! andersand (306), Malmö, Sweden
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 30, 2009 Brown with a huge almost grey looking head, looks like a king in it’s glass. Aroma is yeasty of heavy typical wheat components. The body is big but the beer is still very easy to drink, smooth but filling. Flavour is yeasty of ripe banana, light caramell, clove and something subtile that reminds me of very weak coffe. Savvy1982 (303), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 29, 2009 Bottle. Pours a hazy gentle brown, with a sot white head that gradually reduces to a ring. Nose is soft fruit, cough medicine, root beer, caramel/toffee, nice sourness, a shade of delicate hops, cinnamon, ripe banana, a bit of oaky earthiness as well. Flavor is semi-sweet, nice gentle hoppiness, cinnamon and bananas, Christmas cake with brandy, again slightly sour, especially towards the finish, not as spicy as I had remembered, but very nice and well-balanced nonetheless. | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 28, 2009 Thick wheaty and sweet aroma, both one of the sweetest and wheatiest aromas I have smelled. Plenty of spices in there as well as a touch of chocolate. Pours a dark unclear brown with a very quickly dissipating head. Looks to be quite carbonated. Not as sweet as the aroma would predict, beautiful beer. Sticky on the lips, long and complex aftertaste. Alcohol is extremely well hidden but after drinking 500mL you can feel the 8.2%.
I REALLY like this beer, I can’t believe I only bought one bottle. Have to find more! mirjukka (702), LOHJA, Finland
