Gentle mouthfeel; soft up front, somewhat crisp near the finish. Nice amount of carbonation. Sweet malts complemented by a roastiness and a mild bitterness in the finish. Apple and banana notes here and there; maybe even a touch of bubblegum too. Extremely well-balanced and complex, yet easy to drink and enjoy. Amazing aromas that require careful dissection: toffee, nutmeg, vanilla, soft roasted malt, all wrapped together as more than the sum of their parts. Palate is terrifically flavourful without being overwhelming: roasted malt, raisins, caramel, and nutmeg/cloves. Perfect carbonation. Very smooth finish. Perfectly balanced so as not to be cloying. Alcohol sits quietly amongst all of this; warm without being harsh. One of the best! Ibrew2or3 (2766), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 4, 2006 Hazy brown color with off white head. Strong aroma of sweet malts, wheat, prunes and dates. Lots of carbonation. Flavor of sweet fruit, sweet malts, wheat and coriander spice. The wheat flavor lingers into the finish. DruncanVeasey (2764), The Penguin’s Arms, Europe, Warwickshire, England
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 30, 2007 Filthily muddy deep brown weizen capped with off-white, receding suds. Swirls with sediment against the light. Aromas to drown in- banana liqueur and clovey spice with a fusty edge of wood-tinged sourness. Overripe bananas dipped in melted toffee and dusted with clove and white pepper. Big, toffeeish malt drying out into a clipped, slightly warming finish. But the alcohol is beautifully disguised. Drinks like a seductively spicy Hefe/St Bernardus/Sour Ale hybrid. Blindfolded I’d swear it was Belgian. How the Germans conjure something as headily fruity and spicy as this out of just malt, hops, yeast, wheat and water is nothing short of a marvel. The sort of beer you’d name your children after. Almost opaque but not quite. Dark, reddish-brown color. Soft, pleasant mouthfeel. Creamy when it hits the mouth: absolutely delightful. Medium to full-bodied, malty but dry at the same time. Straightforward--solid--unpret Slightly alcoholic. Towards the end of the bottle, I swished the sediments out and added it to my glass, which immediately transformed the flavor, making the brew thicker, mellower, and less alcoholic although also sweeter, richer, smoother, and more pleasant.
Draft at Munich. Intense murky brown with thick white head. Clean aroma oozes banana. Palate is smooth, the tap does wonders for the carbonation level/palate. Is fruity. 7-5-8-5-15 harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 2, 2003 This was extremely tasty, but not really my bag, baby. Dark and richly creamy, with a strong, very complex, and full bodied flavor. I tasted lots of rich caramel, and slightly peppery cloves and figs. I am told that every time you have this you discover something new about it, so I really look forward to the next time I can try it, but it is not something I would actively drink.
