Commercial Description:
Dark ruby, glistening mysteriously, streaked with fine, top-fermented yeast, this beer has a compact, stable and long-lasting head. It has an intensive, typically top-fermented clove-like aroma. The palate experiences a gentle touch, on the tongue it is very full-bodied, compact and yet fresh with a hint of caramel. It finishes with a light and delicate taste of bitters leaving behind a strong, smoothly rounded, sour impression.

Dark reddish-brown, hazy, with big frothy head. Luscious dark fruit aroma - banana, apple crumble, sweet malts, milk chocolate. Most surprisingly is the hint of burning cedar - I've never picked that phenol out in Aventinus before (but then I haven't evaluated Aventinus in a while either); smooth dark malt palate...dark malts, sweet banana esters, liberal mix of alcohol. Complex, stylish, and daring. A great weizenbock.

2009-03-17, draught at Ølbaren, Copenhagen, 9-5-8-4-17=43
Cloudy brown color; huge, thick head. Impressive aroma, with strong banana esters, but also spices (cloves), and clearly perfumy, soapy; later, bubblegum. Good body strength, caramel flavor, some residual sweetness (always less than I would like), nice mix of esters, delicate (banana, bubblegum and light cloves); the alcohol can be perceived, but it’s very low. Excellent.

Dark brown color; the big head reduces quickly, after some time it’s a still surface. It has a strong aroma of oxidized caramel, light vegetables and alcohol. Caramel flavor, lighty oxidized and nutty; the body is thinner than in a fresh bottle, and the bitterness almost gone. Interesting experience, but not the best beer for ageing.

2005-12-03, draught, 8-5-8-4-17=42
Cloudy dark amber color, big creamy head. Nice aroma, banana, malt. Medium body structure (but more than the bottles I tried recently), malty, fruity (banana), light herbs. Excellent!

2003-06-30, bottle, 8-5-9-4-17=43
Hazy amber color. Nice malt aroma and impressive body, malty, oily, wrapping, perfectly balanced. Powerful and very good!

Hazy amber with medium beige head. Sweet aroma with ripe fruits, roasted malt, wheat and caramel hotes. Sweet flavor with roasted malt, wheat, yeasty and banana notes. Ends sweet.

The aroma is sweet, caramel and fruity. the taste likewise. There’s a slight hint of alcohol, but you’d never guess at its true abv. The beer sits well on the palate, and goes down very smoothly. The problem I have with this beer is that by the time you’re at the end of your first bottle, you realize you have no interest ina second -- the sweetness that was so welcome at the beginning has become cloying.

Bottled (BB 27.05.2004)
Dark hazy brown, like mud. Quickly vanishing brown head. Floating particles. Lots of CO2. Aroma has sweetness and some alcohol. Doublebock warm palate and weizen softness. Had to rerate this because this looks like not the best possible bottle. (5/3/5/3/10)
re-rate, bottled (BB 27.05.04)
Drinked from weizen glass. Murky, hazy brown. Vanishing off-white head. Aroma is sweet, prunes, alcohol bite. Taste is like hefeweizen beer with alcohol added: banana flavor typical to weizens but smooth sweetish palate missing and replaced by dobbelbockie strong malts. Alcoholic bitter and sour aftertaste. (7/3/7/3/13) Rating is average of two, looks like not much difference. Same BB of bottles anyway.

Bottle. Dark brown cloudy wheat beer. Bubblegum, lemon and banana, good carbonation, some roast malt gives this more body and is also smoother. Not bad

Aventinus has a nice head and a rather brown color with a red hue. The aroma has wonderful notes of wheat, malt and fruit and the mouth feeling is smooth. The flavour is sweet and has a lot of different notes of dark, ripe fruits, banana, nuts and wheat. It’s a full bodied and heavy beer with the lightness of a wheat beer. So far I haven’t yet met a wheat as nice as this one, it’s a sheer pleasure to drink it.
