Commercial Description:
Dark ruby, glistening mysteriously, streaked with fine, top-fermented yeast, this beer has a compact, stable and long-lasting head. It has an intensive, typically top-fermented clove-like aroma. The palate experiences a gentle touch, on the tongue it is very full-bodied, compact and yet fresh with a hint of caramel. It finishes with a light and delicate taste of bitters leaving behind a strong, smoothly rounded, sour impression.

Bottle from Bitter Virtue. (BBE 28/09/05 Drank 02/07/05). Ruby colour with initially large loose head rapidly diminishing. Nothing about this beer is overdone. The spice, fruit, yeast and malt elements are all well balanced. The alcohol makes itself felt towards the end of the beer and helps to balance out some of the sweetness. Quite a light beer for its strength and it left me thinking about whether I really liked it or not - I think I did but it wasn’t exceptional.

Dark red/brown, hazy. White foam that disappears slowly. Nice malt body with fruits, yeast and some spiciness. Sweetness and alcohol well balanced. A very nice and special beer. Perhaps a little too much carbonation.

We did a Vertical Pairing with the 2001. The beer was ruby in color. Pure white head. Slight berry aroma. All the characteristics of a DUNKELWEISS, very distinctive. Doesn’t seem like a BOCK. lots of fruit. Berry, wheat and Mixed Berry. Slight malt in the distance. lots of spice: cinnamon clove nutmeg. This one needs to be aged!

Nose of Orange, vanilla, yeast and colves. Brown body with hints of orange. Little frothy head. Spices tastes, also oranges, vanilla black berries and cloves. Thick. Kicks on the roof of the tongue. Awesome that I had to buy it in the States, as it is hard to get it in the North of Germany.

2004 Bottle from Westpark in Richmond, Can’t believe I haven’t rated this yet! Orange amber color with a big head and a fair amount of lacing. Aroma of deep raisin and alcohol. Taste of caramel, dark fruit and vanilla. Effervescent and a little thin bodied. Disappointing compared to fresh.

deep brown orange. poured with a huge head that stayed till the end; along with medium lace. Started with fruit/apple/clove and continued to develop as it warmed, gaining chocolate/bubble gum flavor as well. Mine started off a bit cold - even then the palate was medium - got very thick. well carbonated, but not fizzy tasting. (tasted in the RateBeer Chatroom - 10/30/02)
