| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 20/20 | Jun 6, 2006 Updated: Jun 30, 2007Re-rate, March 07 on draft at Ludwig’s: Fine stuff, no need to add more dribble to this text. Re-rate, Feb 07, non-vintaged bottle this time: Despite being an early review from me, my first one seems to do it justice. Slight alcohol detected this time through, probably because I bought the standard bottle unaged, but it was still wonderful, super delightful, very smooth, as good as a weizenbock can get. The rating is getting bumped a bit for its within style quality (a few more weizenbocks under my belt now). Having an Aventinus Weiznestarkbier glass made the crowned fluffy head and overall appearance all the better too. An excellent beer. Original rating follows with more descript comments.... Original rating: Bottle from 2001 batch. This one exceeded all expectations. Fantastic. Pour resulted in a brown-amber colored beer with a single finger of tan head on top. The head settled, but remained as a persistent (to the last sip) thin covering on top of the beer, that actually laced ok the whole drink. The aroma was sweet, clove-like, accompanied by bananas and a light roastedness. The flavor was based on a sweet weizen base with spices (cloves) and some roasted caramel type malts detected. Not as dry as many a dunkelweizen, and certainly richer and more complex, this one was very enjoyable. Dark fruits and chocolate hide beneath it all and come out more as it warms. Lots of stuff going on here, and the alcohol is super smooth. I’ll have to try a recent bottling to see how this is unaged. Boutip (2400), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 6, 2003 Deep trouble copper appearance with a nice head. Aroma is quite complex. Alcohol is very discreet. Not my favorite style or indeed a style that I know much about but I wouldn't mind trying this again. Vac (2394), San Diego, California, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 3, 2007 Dark cherry body with deep violet hues. Large off-white head that settles to a 2mm layer with excellent retention. Virtually no lacing noted. The aroma shows vinous fruit up front, dark roasted malts, fresh lake water, and ample amounts of wheat. The flavor is comprised of sweet, dark, fruity malts, red wine, and almost no detectable hop bitterness. Medium body with a sweet, slightly cloying palate. High carbonation is quite apparent in the striking fizziness that it leaves on the tongue. Finish is short, with concentrated dark fruits and drying wheat. Nicely crafted brew, just not one of my favorite styles. Hansen (2341), Randers, Denmark
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 12, 2003 It's good, but not that good. It has the typical weiss-beer spicyness. On top of this it is a bit more malty. Spiesy (2333), Global Citizen, Greater London, England
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 12, 2003 Bottled. Foggy brown colour with bold, energetic white head that left an attractive lacy trail all the way to the bottom of the glass. Served in the correct style glassware, picked up in Prague, the beer looked a treat. I was expecting to drink this beer at the time, so I wasn’t immediately impressed but this beer had won me over by the finish. Complex and interesting, it was more like a wine then a beer, changing flavours and characteristics with every sip.
