Commercial Description:
Dark ruby, glistening mysteriously, streaked with fine, top-fermented yeast, this beer has a compact, stable and long-lasting head. It has an intensive, typically top-fermented clove-like aroma. The palate experiences a gentle touch, on the tongue it is very full-bodied, compact and yet fresh with a hint of caramel. It finishes with a light and delicate taste of bitters leaving behind a strong, smoothly rounded, sour impression.

Bottle. A dark golden amber color with a nice large head. A nice spice, clove, and banana flavor that is clean and crisp. It appropriately finishes quickly, making its punch but not overstaying its visit. A wonderful combination of the wheat and doppellbock, borrowing from the best of both worlds. I could almost think this was a Belgian.

Bottled. Hazy reddish-brown color with impressive but vanishing head. Bready aroma with banana, smoke and berries. Bready, sweetish and warming flavor with notes of banana and dark fruits. The finish is silky, oily and warming. Great beer with deep flavors!

Poured into a genuine Aventinus glass, the actively bubbly, beige head fills that big bubble that makes up the top half of the glass, softly crumbling down. Color, Clear, deep amber, high carbonation. Aroma: yeasty, spicey, cloves and bread, delicate and dreamy, soft and creamy. Rich, fruity taste, figs dance on the tongue, apples, white grapes, raisins, generous, arousing texture. This is perfect pleasure, the mouthfeel is gracious and the sweet, bright grapiness provides constant delight. There's a brief sourness, but it matches well with the flavor profile. Long finish, full bodied, ...a beautiful, beautiful brew.

Well it is the middle of winter so it is the right time to sample this beer.Thought the aroma was of citrus first and then cloves, the taste of nutty, spicy, malt, caramel, wow too complex to describe rather enjoy drinking this beer than rating it. Like the alcohol content!

Nice deep copper appearance, big head, relatively large bubbles. Aroma of tropical fruits and cloves. On the palate, there was a definite bite from the active carbonation. Flavors of light caramel sweetness, cloves, maybe a hint of banana. A touch of sourness. Not my favorite style, pleasantly surprised overall.

20% light nut colored frothy head on top of a dark tea-colored body. Couldnt really grasp too much in the aroma, I guess you can say it had some clove. Palate was quite light and a fair amount of carbonation. First impression was not very good, but it grew on me. Not as complex as I had imagined, yet it is a wheat doppel...there was some noticeable ethanol in the finish. A pretty good beer. --------&# was my 59th beer rated and my 4th that has an overall rating of greater than 4, so I figured I'd re-rate now that my palate is more mature. Aroma is largely banana and clove-like. Pours a murky slightly browner than apple cider color with a fizzy light tan head. Lots of wheat in this beer, bananas and cloves in the middle. Some sweetness too. A little alcohol burn at the end. Bitter finish. I would say that my original rating is probably right on the money for this one. I may have decreased a point in appearance. Solid, but a bit overrated IMO.

Bottle, 04.09.04. Pours a creamy, caramel brown. Deep. Medium head that refuses to quit its fine, even froth. Absolutely reeks of yummy yeasts...citrus, apple, fresh berries, brown sugar, and dough. The beer is light on the palate with a nicely complimentary alcohol note. Flavors of spiced gumdrops, light cocoa, candied fruits. Mouthfeel is full and there is plenty of carbonation. A complex, deep, thoroughly delicious beer. Truly fantastic and one of the best bargains around.

Poured a monster head that faded fast and flat. Rich amber-brown color. Nice aroma of raspberry, chicory, cloves and yeast. Rich malt and dark fruit flavor with a subtle warm, phenolic quality. Full bodied and smooth mouthfeel. Nicely rounded and well-conditioned beer overall. A classic.
