| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 31, 2002 This beer pours a deep, cloudy copper color out of the bottle with a huge active tan head that crackled as it shrank with big bubbles. The nose is darkly complex with spice and apple/fruit notes. Huge malty sweetness with dark plum, apple and caramel flavors combining well with the clove spiciness. Fruit and brown sugar flavors come to the fore as it warms. Wonderfully well blended and balanced flavors. Great beer.

Very dark mahogany in appearance. lively carbonation. aroma is typical of a weizen: sweet yeast, banana, apples. 8% alcohol is hidden very well, very drinkable. I just can't believe how wonderfully balanced this stuff is. Good thing it's a regular release at the LCBO! OleR (2106), Oslo, Norway

A fingerthick, creamy sand-colored head upon a near-clear, plain brown colored body. Beautiful, rounded, gently sweet, wheaty malt aroma, added by subtle scent of slightly perfumed fruity and floral hops. Taste has a delicate sweetness from a soft, wheaty malt body. A fine fruitiness underneath. Supersmooth in the mouth. Full body. Fruity finish with an acidic touch. Finally I’ve tasted this gem, a delicious beer. mkobes (2104), paramus, New Jersey, USA

Malty, chocolate, rich, raisins, semi-dry, bananas and pears, cloves, nuts and a froth head to boot. Slightly acidic and elegantly creamy. A tad bit more hops and alcohol would have made this beer a little better, IMO. I can’t complain however. SSSteve (2092), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Very cloudy brownish, with foaming large beige head, fading surprisingly rapidly. Banana and caramel are the first to be known in the nose, followed by mild phenols. Flavor is strongly sweet with true weizen flavors of banana, mild clove to give complexity. Mild melanoidin malts are present but are tempered by the phenols. Finish is light, refreshing, semi-dry, zesty, almost minty. A truly outstanding accomplishment in a beer so strong. Mild alcohol presence does come through, especially as the beer warms, but it's also amazing that a beer of this strength can retain its complexity and drinkability at cooler temps. Also amazing that this beer ages so well - it could perhaps survive a year or two more.
