Aroma of roasted malts, yeast, some sweetness and alcohol. Great bustling mouthfeel! The flavour is quite malty, fruity (raisins and figs) and bit spiced (clover) with the alcohol again appearing as a positive input. Long lasting afertaste with some acidic touch on the tongue. A very nice warming DOUBLE wiezenbock from Upper Bavaria. A truly great beer. Emil (6074), Copenhagen, Denmark

Sweet, malty taste with banana, mango, bread, cola and butter flavors. Full bodied. Alcohol present, but well hidden. The taste is magnificent, the aroma is limping behind. Ok try as I might I cant help but admit this is damn fine stuff. Very very good aroma. Wheaty like a white beer, full on and fruity like a dubbel and something that is almost oud brune in there too. Appearance has just been upped to a 5 now that I have noticed how uneven the line between the body and head is. Its bumpy up and down and at each of the down points there is a little spider trail of bubbles leading down into the body. There is no doubt this is a very very good looking beer. Flavour is chunky, balanced and complex. Dark AND light fruit, clove, yeast, caramel and pudding. Damn it’s all over the place! It’s just very very slightly too sweet if you ask me but it’s hard to find fault. Mouthfeel is chunky, smooth and awesome. Just glorious all round really. This one has special memories for me too. Firstly because it finished Sim off big style at GBBF once and I had to LITERALLY carry her home. Secondly because there is a guy who drinks in the wonderful Bar Fringe in Manchester and only drinks Aventinus in the right glass that he keeps behind the bar. He sinks a few of these and then suddenly stands up and the whole place comes to a standstill to watch him float, and i mean float out of the door with his eyes on stalks. Funny. A real sight to be seen. thewolf (5764), Kolding, Denmark
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 28, 2006 Muddy brown-red colour with great white head. Banana, fruitiness, some citrus and plums in the aroma. The taste is equally impressive, with the caramel taking over, lending a sweet edge to the taste. A lightly vinious touch enhances the fruity flavours in a long-lasting aftertaste. hopdog (5601), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 24, 2006 Sampled from bottle provided by dickinsonbeer. Poured a deeper reddish/brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas and tastes of bananas, cloves, wheat and some citrus. Newer bottle tried next to a ’99 vintage. The ’99 was oxidized and quite boring while the newer one rocked. Rastacouere (5553), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 9, 2003 From a 500mL bottle. The beer pours in a fin du monde glass making an impressing and dense off-white head. The body is dark brown with medium to high carbonation. The head is initially very dynamic, the bubbles at the top get larger and its size diminish fast, but a greatly tight laced one-incher stay up there for the whole 30 minutes I took to drink it. Cold, the aroma is nothing to shout about. On the other hand, as the beer warms, it develops a nice brown sugar and fruity malt complexity. In mouth, I first notice bananas, pears, grapes, brown sugar, berries as well as spices like cloves and cinnamon with a wheaty/bready aftertaste. Pleasant medium mouthfeel, a little biting, creamy. While weizens are definitely not among my favorites, this one is complex, refreshing and pleasant.
Alcohol was not noticeable at all to me. Thank you CapFlu! Magicdave6 (5530), London, Greater London, England

First the purple label has banter written all over it, its just a great bottle. Pours a deep kind of mirky browny, red colour. Aroma is like AAGGGHHHH, theres just so much going on in an aventinus. Fruits ranging from wheaty banana, to apricots and dark berry fruits to go with spice’s off all kinds, mainly cardimon and 5 spice. Taste is just outstanding, everything thats going on in the aroma but with a immencly refreshing dry bite towards the end. Alround id like to see if i could do 10 of these in one nite as its one of my favourate beers the now, a must. RERATE: Down from 4.6, the wheat charactwer is etting annoyign these days, but still an excellent beer.
