Aroma of wheat and spices (cloves very prominent). Little bit of dark fruit in there also. Excellent color of foggy dark orange/amber. Good carbnation which keep a thin layer of foam on the surface for the duration. Flavor is spicy with subltle wheat flavor behind. Slightly sweet and fruity also. Little bit of sourness in there with the fruit. Finish is creamy and smooth with slight sweet wheat overtones. Alcohol is well hidden. An excellent beer which should appeal to many different people with varying tastes. rederic (1815), montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 10, 2005 Dark amber hazy hue, with a light and thin foamy head, with a multitude of sparkling small bubbles due to the méthode champenoise used. The nose is very fruity of raisin, plum, fig with a clovey spiciness touch, in the aroma, follows through a medium-bodied palate with a fruity-raisiny, dark fruits and sweet malted flavors, leading to a chocolaty accent marrying the clovey aspect in a alcoholic warmth finish. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 13, 2002 From the moment of the first pour, I thought this looked and smelled like a Scottish Ale. The head developed in the same way, the color would be a perfect match, and there was this earthy maltiness right up front that was fantastic. From a taste standpoint, obviously, there’s no comparison to a Scots! I know nothing about wheats, and only a tiny bit about dopplebocks, so my comparisons here are to slim pickins’, but this is unique. The cloveiness in the taste took some getting used to, and I can tell that this is a superbly brewed beer. Like a couple of other raters, my overall and flavor scores are down a bit...it’s just a sweet, acquired taste, like my old dad used to tell me about martinis, and I ain’t acquired it yet. I can’t believe I was able to find this in Jackson, which is only 15 miles from me. thornecb (1810), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA

Raisins, pepper and soy aromas. Full-bodied and creamy. Upfront caramel malts and clove -- slightly sweet. Lasting roasted honey finish. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 25, 2004 Bottle. Dark amber with a very active off white head that fades very quickly. The head was in no way shape or fasion long lasting. It disapeared before my eyes into a thin ring of bubbles clinging to the side of my weizen glass. Nose is strong of wheat with a medium bananna note. Taste is WHEATY as hell. There is a very unpleasant metal aftertaste. Some notes of berries, grapes, caramel and fruit come out after it warms. The finish is sour and not exactly pleasant. Honestly I don't know how I feel about this beer. The taste is just a little too metallic and grapey for my liking. It is not completley unpleasant though. This would probably go well with a nice plate of sausage and kraut. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | May 29, 2004 I once wrote that even if you don’t like the style, you should be able to appreciate a good example of it. I was wrong. This is a 99 %ile beer and left me unimpressed. Dark brown with fleeting tan head. Some sweetness to the nose. Medium body. Unremarkable flavor. Sorry, WheatBeerians, this did nothing for me. illinismitty (1800), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

Nice aroma of fruity esters and carmelized sugar. Flavor of sweet dark wheat malt, along with banana, purple grapes, and tropical fruit. Smooth mouthfeel, easy to drink, and no detection of alcohol. Simply a great beer.
