The beer pours in a fin du monde glass making an impressing and dense off-white head. The body is dark brown with medium to high carbonation. The head is initially very dynamic, the bubbles at the top get larger and its size diminish fast, but a greatly tight laced one-incher stay up there for the whole 30 minutes I took to drink it. Cold, the aroma is nothing to shout about. On the other hand, as the beer warms, it develops a nice brown sugar and fruity malt complexity. In mouth, I first notice bananas, pears, grapes, brown sugar, berries as well as spices like cloves and cinnamon with a wheaty/bready aftertaste. Pleasant medium mouthfeel, a little biting, creamy. While weizens are definitely not among my favorites, this one is complex, refreshing and pleasant.
Alcohol was not noticeable at all to me. Thank you CapFlu! Magicdave6 (5558), London, Greater London, England

First the purple label has banter written all over it, its just a great bottle. Pours a deep kind of mirky browny, red colour. Aroma is like AAGGGHHHH, theres just so much going on in an aventinus. Fruits ranging from wheaty banana, to apricots and dark berry fruits to go with spice’s off all kinds, mainly cardimon and 5 spice. Taste is just outstanding, everything thats going on in the aroma but with a immencly refreshing dry bite towards the end. Alround id like to see if i could do 10 of these in one nite as its one of my favourate beers the now, a must. RERATE: Down from 4.6, the wheat charactwer is etting annoyign these days, but still an excellent beer. hopscotch (5537), Vero Beach, Florida, USA

I might have to give it another try. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed every sip. A very hearty, strong bock/wheat beer. Not dissapointed in the beer. My expectations were unfairly high. I’ve had a lot of weizenbocks and this is still my favorite.
1999 Aged Version sampled on 11/21/02: Clouded murky brown with a puffy tan head. Complex aroma of sweet caramel and wheat malts with some dark and light fruits. Sweet sticky finish covers the alcohol very well. This seems to have picked up some more complexity over the past 4 years, but nothing too different from its fresh version.
Original Rating: Dark brown with a huge puffy head (see picture). Smells like a really malty wheat beer with the typical banana and clove character. The body is full and a touch spicy with a mellow bittering finish. It warms the inside as it goes down, although the alcohol is masked well in the flavor. I love the yeast as well. Perhaps the best wheat doppelbock ever. Bov (5508), Bienne, Switzerland

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 10, 2002 Re-rate: i seem to always re-rate this beer, so here i go again. Interesting clovy, banana smoothy/Banana Paddlepop aroma, with suggestions of toffee or caramel. Clovy, yeasty, fruity (banana), chocolatey/caramellly palate, quite complex. The ingredients seem to blend well together. Sweetish, but dry-ish finish, totally insane in the end. i am so happy that i can just walk down the road and get it. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 3, 2006 Huge, very dense & creamy brownish head over chestnut-amber beer, very hazy with yellowish highlights and an olive shine. Very typical Weizennose: fruity-estery with banana, cloves and expressly wheat; further candi-sugar like, caramelly, malt notes, but pretty clear. Sourish-sweetish main taste, coloured by very fruity esters (oranges and banana) and a spicey, peppery flavour that is also promoting a spritzy MF. Very clearly sourish wheat taste, but also lots of malts, sweet & caramelly. All sounding very stereotypical for a Weizen, but indeed, this is very lively, characterful and very balanced. Spritzy MF, with a lot of body behind it, wheat slickness in a very pronounced way, alcoholwarming. Another Schneider classic. Strange tat the leading brewery produces also top quality. Something InBev, A-B or SABMiller can only dream of. ThomasE (5178), Copenhagen, Denmark
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 25, 2004 Dark ruby red colour with lively head. Aroma is powerfull with a clear malty sweetness, some caramel and figs. Flavor has a nice sweetness with again caramel and figs, just hints of the alcohol in the finish.
