Commercial Description:
Dark ruby, glistening mysteriously, streaked with fine, top-fermented yeast, this beer has a compact, stable and long-lasting head. It has an intensive, typically top-fermented clove-like aroma. The palate experiences a gentle touch, on the tongue it is very full-bodied, compact and yet fresh with a hint of caramel. It finishes with a light and delicate taste of bitters leaving behind a strong, smoothly rounded, sour impression.

(on bottle)If I haden´t read the "Weisenstarkbier" on the label, I could have sworn it was a bock. Overall; I love this beer. Great aroma of PEAR, great taste , dominated by PEAR ; right down to the last sip. I like PEAR and this beer will help me in the future, proving that dark beers is not allways heavy and thick. The 8.0 alc. made me whimzy a while too, or was it just another great beer-experience?!

Wow! Bananas are heavy in the aroma and then the cloves start. Have had this beer in both draft and bottle and the bottle is MUCH better. Some beers just don’t translate well to draft.

This is a good, solid German Beer, it is chocolaty, with a Caramel flavor, but not overpowering, A great beer to enjoy slowly! I really liked it!

My total rating is from the newest of these ratings:

2006 bottle. - Pours hazy dark amber with a big fluffy tan head. Aroma of fruity cloves, sweet spice, crazy esters that I’ve never gotten from this beer: bubble gum, cotton candy, really sweet, no noticable alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy bodied and lush, foamy carbonation makes this beer quite refreshing. It’s hard to call anything perfect, but this is as close to perfect as I’ve tasted. Ap 5 Ar 10 Fl 9 Pa 5 Ov 18

2004 bottle. - Pours dark and murky with a thin off-white head. Aroma is yeast and phenolic with notes of cloves, banana, toffee and a slight hint of bubble gum. Taste starts with sweet fruits and bready malt dripped in caramelized toffee, which slowly dissolves into a bouquet of flowery esters. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with lush foamy carbonation. Alcohol content is subdued but evident in the aftertaste and after completing the bottle. This brewery certainly knows how to make a good wheat beer. If I had one desert island beer, this would be it. Ar 9 Ap 5 Fl 9 Pa 5 Ov 18

2001 vintage. - Bought this bottle in honor of dortmunder. First time I have seen vintage Aventinus on sale in Atlanta. Rest in peace friend. This beer is presented in a white bag with purple lettering. Pouring the brew into my weizen glass caused a violent wispy head to form, and quickly recede. Incredible phenolic aroma of apples, nutmeg, oak, vanilla, and cloves. Taste is sweet chewy wheat, spicy yeast, and earthy aromatic breads. This beer felt heavier than normal because most of the carbonation was initially lost during the pour. Aged Aventinus is certainly more mellow, and in my opinion better than fresh samples. Four years might be taking it too long though. Ar 10 Ap 4 Fl 8 Pa 5 Ov 17

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Poured a dark, cloudy to murky brown. Two inch, stable off-white head. Aroma is banana and cloves with a hint of bubble gum. The taste is quite different from the aroma. Slight alcohol, malty, sweet and spicey, with a slightly bitter finish. Full bodied, smooth, nicely carbonated. Top quality.

Ruby red in color, kept an awesome off-white head throughout the half liter, full body, a floral hint in the aroma as well as the aftertaste, very smooth, very drinkable, I would have drank this all night but there were others that I needed to try while I was at Ludwig's Garten in Philly, outstanding weizen bock!

Bottle Pours a cloudy reddish brown. Not a particularly attractive color. Small white head that lasts a bit. Too coarse for any real lacing. Aroma is very nice. Fruity, Musty, and spicy. Apples, cinnamon and cloves. Quite high carbonation that gets in the way imediately after a sip. The head is maintained byt the profuse carbonation coming up constantly. You can see at the top the bubbles boiling up. Full complicated flavors. ABV masked well. Finish is somewhat dry with no real bitterness.

500 mL bottle releases a dark brown liquid that puts out quite a head. Aromas are wonderful... bananas, cloves, candi sugar, brown sugar, plums and the like. Dang, the flavor is spot on and this is wonderful stuff. I can’t believe I haven’t tried this before. THe banana and clove flavors come through stronger than in most of the other weizens I’ve tried, which is an interesting and nice touch. I have to say that I completely enjoyed this.
