Smells of figs and chocolate. Taste is refreshing like a hefe but has the maltiness and punch of a great doppelbock. Wonderful in every respect. Re-rate 9/15/02: This is quite possibly the finest beer to come out of Germany, and man can those people make some incredible beer. This is everything a relaxing desert beer should be. On the one hand its very refreshing, nice for those summer nights. On the other hand its sweet and warming, great for a romantic winter evening with the old lady,... even she really likes it. And it ’aint even that expensive! I could drink this every night and be a happy man.

I’ve had a lot of weizenbocks and this is still my favorite.
1999 Aged Version sampled on 11/21/02: Clouded murky brown with a puffy tan head. Complex aroma of sweet caramel and wheat malts with some dark and light fruits. Sweet sticky finish covers the alcohol very well. This seems to have picked up some more complexity over the past 4 years, but nothing too different from its fresh version.
Original Rating: Dark brown with a huge puffy head (see picture). Smells like a really malty wheat beer with the typical banana and clove character. The body is full and a touch spicy with a mellow bittering finish. It warms the inside as it goes down, although the alcohol is masked well in the flavor. I love the yeast as well. Perhaps the best wheat doppelbock ever. beerstop (173), Roanoke, Virginia, USA

Malty with nice sweetness and hints of clove and vanilla. Medium-light palate with lots of carbonation. Very drinkable. bubslang (438), Kentwood, Michigan, USA

Excellent complexity of weizen flavors and esters with the maltiness and alcohol of a doppelbock. dprior (118), Somerville, Massachusetts, USA

The appearance is somewhat cloudy, which isn’t very appealing to me, but it’s nice and dark. The aroma is good. It’s got a fruity/choclatey smell. Very pleasing. After my first sip, I exclaimed ’Oh, that’s delicious!’ Extremely palatable. Perhaps the best beer I’ve ever had. Fulkrum78 (165), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

I tried it after seeing it mentioned on here and only have good things to say about it. Only thing I do not like is the clove taste I get when I first start a bottle. After that its all good!
Had to re-rate because I keep buying the stuff and loving it more...
