Very cloudy brownish, with foaming large beige head, fading surprisingly rapidly. Banana and caramel are the first to be known in the nose, followed by mild phenols. Flavor is strongly sweet with true weizen flavors of banana, mild clove to give complexity. Mild melanoidin malts are present but are tempered by the phenols. Finish is light, refreshing, semi-dry, zesty, almost minty. A truly outstanding accomplishment in a beer so strong. Mild alcohol presence does come through, especially as the beer warms, but it's also amazing that a beer of this strength can retain its complexity and drinkability at cooler temps. Also amazing that this beer ages so well - it could perhaps survive a year or two more. Indra (2036), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 16, 2002 Incredible aroma, with baking banana nut bread, clove, toffee, just a slight hint of citrus and a touch of alcohol for good measure. Ample head, light tan streaked with darker bottle-runnings (swirled and poured) and lasting at least a day. Attractive, opaque deep reddish-caramel color with a good bit of sediment. Flavor is very satisfyingly malty, with some toffee, doughy, estery and spicy yeasts, date, nut and again a light dosage of alcohol. Finish is creamy and quite long, lightly astringent and full of yeast and malt flavor. Full bodied and with a satisfyingly thick, velvety mouthfeel. This is the rightful standard by which all other Weizen Doppelbocks are judged. Radek Kliber (3968), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada

The head was so great and thick and bubbly. Lasted for years’. It had all the great wheat qualities, that aroma that makes you ummm . You drink this and you know that it can’t get much better than that. Highly Recommended. lovibond (112), New York, USA

Huge aroma, full of cloves, nutmeg, and fruit. Excellent phenolic/ester balance in flavor. Some sweetness in the aftertaste. caesar (3034), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands

Hefe and doppelbock flavors intermingle in strange and wonderful ways. ’Tastes like candy’ says my wife, and she hated the Triple Bock. A winner all around. obxdude10 (1562), Pottstown, Pennsylvania, USA
