Commercial Description:
Dark ruby, glistening mysteriously, streaked with fine, top-fermented yeast, this beer has a compact, stable and long-lasting head. It has an intensive, typically top-fermented clove-like aroma. The palate experiences a gentle touch, on the tongue it is very full-bodied, compact and yet fresh with a hint of caramel. It finishes with a light and delicate taste of bitters leaving behind a strong, smoothly rounded, sour impression.

Bottled. Small near-white head quickly fading into a fading ring, no lace and topping a dark, reddish amber body, hazy with some rather large solids in the bottom of the bottle, like solid, blackish flakes. Mouth is fairly full with an incredible amount of foamy(but with larger bubbles, as would provide silky mouth if there weren’t so much) carbonation that is very dry and reminding me of a good belgian strong ale, very clean and crisp. Malty mouth with fruit(banana, prune), caramel, bitter clove(mild enough to be quite pleasant; adding, not overly dominating), sour yeasts in the middle, a finish that is bitter clove, sour banana, burned wood...not oak, maybe redwood, somewhat like a cinnamon stick with much of the flavor boiled out. Aroma last to let this warm up a bit: wonderful aroma of carmelized bananas, light, light clove, touch of vanilla; sweet and clean, reminding me of "Dreamery Banana Split" ice cream, which is wonderful stuff. Aroma picks up prune and touch of alcohol with warmth. Bock sweetens up as it warms, ever so slight taste of sweet alcohol peaks out from the clove and caramel, aftertaste becomes sweeter, picking up more caramel, touch of banana. Pleasantly dry, not parching; lovely to drink, complex. 10/2007 Ridiculously big head, fully lasting, with no lace, topping a chestnut body. Lovely aroma of fruits, banana, wheat, esters, guano (yes, this stuff smells a bit like a cave, or ocean rocks frequented by seabirds), and alcohol blended throughout. Mouth is medium-full with lots of light, foamy carbonation and a dry finish. Becomes somewhat watery as it warms. Flavor is fruit, fruit, fruit! Concord grape, fresh berries (ras, cran), banana, wheat. This stuff is a thrill to drink: it’s like fizzy fruit juice with some alcohol. The alcohol blending in this is flawless. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Nice clear brown with off white head. Cookie dough , cherry, malt and light spice on the nose. Med to heavey weight with a lot of sparkle, sweet at first and lingering on the finish. Chocolate, cherry, clove, light roasted malt and more all show in the mouth. Great Beer!

I had this on tap at Cogan’s Instant Art Bar in Norfolk, Virginia. This came out a cloudy darker brown color with red highlights and a good-sized light tan head that rose out of the glass. Fantastic aromas rise out of this beer with dark fruits, bready malt and that yeasty wheat smell being at the forefront. There are also slight notes of smoke and chocolate. The taste starts of with slightly sweet fruits and a good amount of carbonation as well. There was a good malt flavor over the middle before a slight bit of hops and wheat come in at the end. This has a full creamy body and good carbonation. Very drinkable as well with 3 or 4 tall glasses easily going down in one sitting. Excellent beer that is highly recommended especially on tap if you can find it.

One of my favourites. Pours a ruby tea colour with an indominable white head. Cloves and banana bread strike the nose at first wiff. These notes are repeated in the taste while adding a bit of caramel and cocoa. Not as heavy on the palate as one would think for an 8 percent ABV beer. I could drink one every day and not get tired of it. Be careful though as while it drinks very easily it does pack a punch

An excellent beer. Has a wonderful dark brown color, and a large foam head. Lots of tastes in this one. Sweet, with a slight taste of alcohol. A very smooth beer with hints of fruit and caramel, among other things.

Bottle from LCBO, courtesy of a friend. Poured a beautiful dark liquid. The nose was set off with incredible touches of cherries, grapes, malt and a floral scent. Mouthfeel had a thick, rich and velvety texture. Taste was of cloves, banana peel, caramel and spices. A wonderful beer!

Pours a milky chocolate-brown with a thin foam ring and some lace. Heavenly sweet fruit aroma - rich and inviting. Taste... wow. Sweet fruit and dark wheat, some spice in the middle, and a bit of a hoppy snap near the end, with a lingering spicy aftertaste. Carbonation is very fine - like tonic-water - with a nice creamy resolution to each sip. This is a joy to drink - many thanks to Robin for the bottle! Truly a treat, to be able to rate this after not being able to find it for so many years.
