Commercial Description:
Dark ruby, glistening mysteriously, streaked with fine, top-fermented yeast, this beer has a compact, stable and long-lasting head. It has an intensive, typically top-fermented clove-like aroma. The palate experiences a gentle touch, on the tongue it is very full-bodied, compact and yet fresh with a hint of caramel. It finishes with a light and delicate taste of bitters leaving behind a strong, smoothly rounded, sour impression.

[Bottle, February 2007] Pours dark murky brown. Aroma is berries and chocolate. Flavor chocolate with a bit of carmel and hints of berries. Quite complex. Mouthfeel is crisp and light. Surprising for a dark beer. Amazing stuff.

Dark amber pour...small white head. Just like the commercial description suggests, there seems to be massive amounts of clove in the nose on this, other notes of fresh mint, caramel and a back end of the malted wheat are very much noticeable. Lively body, great carbonation. Flavor is mainly mint, clove, some light fruit and a beautiful yet subtle sour wheat finish. Very good stuff.

Wow, when you really enjoy a beer that you aren’t expecting to enjoy because of it’s style, that shows you it is a good beer. I loved this beer even though I am not a fan of Bocks, and I would defnitely grab this up again! Very complex, very dark tasting, though it only pours tan brown. Saturated with flavors.

wow - really heavy fruity aroma with a scent of baking bread(!) You can also smell the alcohol in the background...Solid head - leaves moderate lacing...a bit fizzy but not overpowering...an aftertaste of apples or pears?? The yeast reminds me of a lot of homebrewed wheats I’ve tasted - much more fruity than your average bear...a lingering taste of banana follows after the citrus fades. I didn’t detect as much cloves as others have posted - but I may be mingling it in with the ’fruity’ description in error...this is a fantastic brew.

An excellent ale. Combination of a brown ale and a hefeweizen. Flavors are very strong with a heavy wheat base. Aroma is mildly sweet. Appearance is light brown with a thick head. A wonderful malty flavor with rich toasted accents.

I tried this several times and just realized I haven’t rated it! One of my favorite bocks. Chocolate and caramel are evident--full bodied, yet smooth. One of my favorites.

Thick dense head. The aroma is malty and sweet with hops, alcohol, cocoa and a hint of citrus. The mouthfeel is rich and has a pleasant carbonation.

[500ml bottle at the Royal Standard of England, Beaconsfield] Gorgeous branded glass with this one. Chestnut black with a large beige head. Some carbonation - I would prefer a little less, but it’s in no way excessive. Tatses of raisins, prunes, figs, treacle, cloves, orange, plums and all things Christmassy (um... apart from turkey...). Like Christmas pudding in a glass - you could imagine using this as a sauce to go on your desert. Despite the sweet, rich flavours and the high ABV, this beer surprisingly does not leave a sticky mouthfeel - although I swear I could still taste . Very very good indeed as a winter dessert beer - although not something I’d particularly want on a summer afternoon! Very impressive stuff! c9
