Aug 20, 2002 Is this an ale or a lager? Its fruitiness suggests this is an ale, an ultrastrong hefe-weiss dunkel. It also bears a strong resemblance to dark, strong belgian ales like Rochefort, or a dunkel version of Don de Dieu. In any case, it is an absolutely wonderful beer. Flavors of chocolate, figs, cloves and banana.. a different taste in every sip... If you are a fan of both hefe-weizens and bocks, this is the ultimate beer!

Oct 22, 2002 I can’t believe I waited so long to try a beer of this type. Truely the best of both worlds. Aroma similar to a weisen with a healthy dose of banana, plus some extra goodies like clove, apricot, pear, and apple. And pleanty of ethanol. Lots of spice in the flavour: cloves, corriander, nutmeg. More bock like and less weise like in flavour. Some chocolate, apple. Nicely carbonated, smooth, rich, and creamy. A fascinating beer.

Oct 31, 2002 This beer pours a deep, cloudy copper color out of the bottle with a huge active tan head that crackled as it shrank with big bubbles. The nose is darkly complex with spice and apple/fruit notes. Huge malty sweetness with dark plum, apple and caramel flavors combining well with the clove spiciness. Fruit and brown sugar flavors come to the fore as it warms. Wonderfully well blended and balanced flavors. Great beer.

Jun 24, 2004 On tap and in Aventinus glass (what a bar). Cloudy dark brown with large lasting heading. Aroma of dark/dried fruits and banana both of which carry into the flavor. Finishes with a light warming.

Mar 16, 2004 Updated: Jul 27, 2007Long lasting head and a little lacing. Cloudy, dark red color. Aroma has bubblegum, clove and some peaches. The flavor is too sweet at first, but gets balanced out with bitterness toward the end. Lots of peach, banana and vanilla. A little malt. The high alcohol content is not tasted or smelled at all. Body is medium with some chewiness. Tried again recently, an excellent beer.

Feb 27, 2003 Pours deep redbrown with huge beige-brown sudsy head. Strong aromas of banana, cloves and yeasty bread. Very smooth. Initial malty caramel, followed by an aftertaste of banana with hints of citrus, spices and hops. Very nice.

Nov 28, 2003 Nice full head, great color. What a great beer, especially for being a wheat. Not very powerful, or so you think. also, i could be biased, cuz my mom's a schneider and we're related somehow.

Mar 22, 2004 (on bottle)If I haden´t read the "Weisenstarkbier" on the label, I could have sworn it was a bock. Overall; I love this beer. Great aroma of PEAR, great taste , dominated by PEAR ; right down to the last sip. I like PEAR and this beer will help me in the future, proving that dark beers is not allways heavy and thick. The 8.0 alc. made me whimzy a while too, or was it just another great beer-experience?!
