Exclusively brewed in reminiscence of Georg Schneiders privilege of being part of the world famous Munich Octoberfest until 1942 when his renowned "Weisse Brauhaus im Tal, Munich" was destroyed. Enjoy and celebrate!

500ml. bottle. Hazy light golden color with a medium sized white head that dissipated quickly. Aroma of bananas, cloves, bubblegum. The flavor was yeasty, fruity with some citrus and cloves along with the banana. Not a great example of the style.

Light copper pour with a thin white head. The aroma is very shallow...cloves, bananas and some citrus...kind of musty. Small bits of sediment floaties. Flavor is fresh and citrusy with some cloves and grassy. Not one of the best weizens I’ve had. The aftertaste urks me...very similar to hydrogen peroxide...lingers a little long and wrong on the back of my throat.

500ml bottle and it’s organic! Filled to the brim of my trusty Duvel glass. Two fingers of white head sit atop a murky, hazy brew, with an apricot, pink grapefruit hue. Pinkinsh at the core, but yellow and dull around the edges. Strong and layered nose. Hints of flowers, bananas, cloves, bubblegum, slight cedar, straw, citrus zest. Playful on the palate. Definitely not too heavy or overly sedimented. Lively and zesty with citrus notes popping out. Typical Hefe flavors, bananas and cloves, but so much more. Dry bitter pine hop finish. Ever so slight alcohol burn at the back of the throat. Vanilla and pepper. Cloying sweetness that holds the bitter burn! Yep, this is good. Not the best Hefe I’ve ever had, but its up there.

The beer poured out of the bottle hazy and golden brown with a lot of sedimentation ... little black flecks throughout and even huge chunks toward the end. It smells like lime and brown sugar, with some hints of spice. The taste is sweet with tepid citrus notes, sort of like a beer mixed with flat diet sprite. The ABV (which is rather high for a Weisse beer) comes through in the finish, so you can taste the alcohol a little bit. Considering how much I enjoy some of Schneider’s other brews, I’m really surprised how awful this one is. I’m not altogether certain what style the Edel-Weisse is meant to emulate. Perhaps I got a bad bottle?

Soft palate, clovelike with citrus overtones. I was a bit frightened at the sour lime smell coming out, but the flavors were well balanced. It was an excellent beer.

In the 0.5L bottle at the Huber Haus. Pours a cloudy brownish gold color. Actually, it is so opaque that it resembles something in which one might grow Tetrahymena. Nice white poofy head dies out toward the end of the beer, but starts out impressive. Incredible aroma of cloves and banana esters. But mostly cloves. I mean, it’s like you shoved some cloves up your nostrils. The beer becomes donimantly sweet tasting at the end, but that may be from the spice fatigue your palate earns about halfway through. I think this just might be an under-rated beer. UPDATE 4/11/6: Toasted caramel aroma, slight medicine flavor. This one stands out when poured side by side with a dozen others at a tasting.

03 December 2005. Schneider Wiesen Edel-Weisse. Bottle. The first thing about this beer that *really* stands out is the lack of head for a weisse. I’ve poured it into my tall wheat glass; this glass has plenty of head space for wheat beers, and I almost always need it since they’re usually so expansive. But this one had large, clear-ish bubbles that quickly and loudly (ok, relatively loudly) popped, leaving nothing but a thin layer of white on the surface. The flavors are pretty classic, though: bubble-gum, a little clove, fruity yeast esters. This could be the kid-sister of the Aventinus – good, promising, but lighter all around (and not world-class). I wish I were tasting this side by side with the regular Schneider Weisse; it’d be interesting to see what the Edel- (and organic) adds, as it were…

Bottle. Pours a crystalline light honey color with white head. The aroma is strong yeast, some citrus zest, grain, and banana. The flavor, though, isn’t quite as assertive as the aroma. It’s very grainy with some yeast and citrus. Ok, but not great.
