Commercial Description:
With its amber-mahogany coloring and streaked with fine top-fermented yeast, this beer has a fine, persistent head that adheres well to the glass. It is pleasantly fruity with a typical top-fermented smell, an aroma of clove and nutmeg apple tantalizes the nose. On the tongue it is fresh, clean, full-bodied, harmonious and well-balanced. It finishes with a light, delicate taste of bitters leaving behind a sour impression.

Muddy pale brown with a huge head. Aroma of banana, wheat, spice pebber and mint. The flavours has some spice identical to Aventinus, but in weak form -it is sweet to begin with (peach), then it goes acid and ends a bit metallic with a medium carbonated feeling.

Bottle. Standard hefe aroma: banana, clove, yeast, wheat. Pleasant. pours a surprising bright copper. Dry on the palate. Crisp with plenty of yeasty earthiness. Lighter tropical fruit notes towards the finish. Medium bodied and quite creamy. Unspectacular but inoffensive.

16.9 oz bottle. Poured a cloudy light amber color with a nice 3 finger fluffy white head that lingered. Aroma was mild, but favorable. Mostly of doughy yeast and a hint of clove. Taste was good. Light and refreshing with the characteristic Hefeweizen yeasty/banana taste. Wheat flavor also comes through in the finish. A slight metallic taste in the finish and also detectable in the aroma (odd, but not too bad) Palate was good not great. Light body and pretty limited carbonation. All in all a good german Hef. Light and refreshing, perfect for a spring/summer day.

Schneider Weisse Original Hefe-Weizen ABV: 5.4% IBU: ? Calories: 200 Volume: 16.9 fl oz Glass: Ococim Weizen Purchased at: Shop Rite Liquors, Hamilton, NJ Consumed on/at: Monday, March 10th, 2008 sensory first impression: Smells great, but looks rather murky. Head is bright white and well formed, but thins before too long. Lacing is strong and holds well. A very fruity and welcome first taste. Apples, nectarine, and banana are well balanced and very tasty. Thins out after a moment to a slightly watery finish. Carbonation shows itself through the murky depths. Visually, it reminds me of a mixture of apple juice, orange juice, seltzer, and just enough milk to really make it weird. Except for the milk, this is really its taste profile. But it tastes pretty good. Hops are quiet. Malt is nice, subtle, and warming. Aroma/Olfactory: Malt flavor is: nuts, toast, fruit juice. Hop flavor is: grassy, light, citrus. Yeast flavor is: moldy, muddy, mushroom Other flavors include: banana, watermelon, raisin, vanilla, clean. Visuals/Appearance: Color is: tan, translucent brown, dusty, smoky. Sandstorm. Liquid is: cloudy, and slightly chunky with sediment. Head and lace are: thick then bumpy, then flat, then wispy. Disappointed by the lace, after a wonderful start. Taste/Flavor: Maltiness or Sweetness level is: light to medium. Hoppiness or Bitterness level is: none to light. Sour level is: very light. Palate/Tactile: Body or Mouthfeel is: light to medium. Texture is: creamy, with a crisp finish. Carbonation is: average or less. Finish is: sweet, short, and a bit watery. Overall experience: Not bad, by any means, but not a great beer. For a great rich experience with fruit infusion, I’ve been enjoying Victory Golden Monkey. For a more reasonable alcohol level than the Monkey, I’ve really grown fond of Flying Fish Abbel Dubbel. Both of these do great things with bananas. Schneider is more like a fruit spritzer, and much less pretty than either Victory of Flying Fish, but not bad.

[bottle] Nice dark brown color. Very hazy, with a serious dense white head. Bready yeast and slightly tart wheat aroma. Flavors spicy wheat, banana esters and some clove. Very well rounded. Strong, prickly carbonation.

Lately I’ve been getting burned by Weissbeier in Des Moines. If it’s not on tap, generally it’s skunky. I can tell upon opening this bottle that this one is not going to disappoint. Smells delicious, yeasty ad doughy, with sweet malt & clove. And I swear that upon opening this bottle I could detect a light smoky aroma, to the point that I had to check to make sure that this was not a Rauch. I might just be insane though. Pours a pretty deep amber, very cloudy with a great fluffy white head that of course sticks around. The taste is beautiful, in my years of drinking Weisse, I am surprised that I hadn’t gotten around to this one yet. Very good sweet banana & clove flavors, but there is more going on here than with you’re typical Weisse. A little bit of fresh fruity hoppiness midmouth, avd a great dry sour flavor at the back of the tongue. The palate is soft at first then very sharp. Overall just what I needed to re-kindle my love of Weisseier.
