Commercial Description:
Schöfferhofer German Wheat Beer Hefeweizen is brewed in Bavarian tradition using wheat malt. The live yeast gives bottle "conditioning" guaranteeing a refreshing fruity flavor. The yeast sediment also leads to the "cloudy" nature of the beer. Care needs to be taken when pouring. Tilt glass and poor slowly. Before pouring last quarter, roll bottle gently back and forward until sediment is dissolved.

Again another surprising find in Japan. This one poured out darker than its krystalweizen cousin. Cloudy and murky dark yellow, the color of apple juice almost with a thick white head. Aroma is zesty of lemon, clove, nutmeg ,and banana like fruitiness. Taste is very smooth and refreshing with just the right amount of spice, sweetness, fruit, and doughy flavors given off by the wheat. Very high quality hefe in my opinion. Something I would buy again because it if very flavorful yet at the same time highly drinkable.

Bottle@Home. Maybe not fair as I had it next to Franziskaner. Banana and light herbal aroma. Cloudy, dark yellow color, beige firm head, good lace. Few flavors, light sweet, light bitter, light herbal, hint of banana. Light bodied.

The appearance is beautiful with the hazy caramell-brown color and the huge foamy head. The arma is a little bit moderate, not a big character. Some phenolic things are in the flavour too with a light carbonation. Good smoothness, a light aftertaste on the palate. I expected more from this legendary hefeweizen.

500ml bottle in a pack from Aldi. £7 for 5 bottles (mix of Kristall and Heffe) and the glass. The glass is great. Nice shape, and a good heavy bottom, with plenty of room at the top for foamy beers. Soap and sweat and a vague crispness. Drinkable but a bit watery. I think the filtered one just edges this.

Bottle (500ml). Poured a slightly cloudy pale orange with dark yellow highlights with a large frothy head which shrunk down to an average size. Aroma was strong notes of artificial banana and vanilla, with some faint notes of cloves and some musky wheat. Taste was a lot more banana with vanilla, musky wheat and cinnamon in the back plus some very faint hints of grassy hops and cloves. Light to medium bodied with a watery texture, lively carbonation and an average finish.

At the Frankfurt airport, hazy light orange with aroma of a typical hefe. Not bad, and a bit more complex than the Kristallweizen version.

06/01 0.5 l bottle from an Eurospar in Graz. It had murky yellow to orange body with medium creamy head. Very nice aroma, yeasty with banana and orange. Flavor is fruity also, with some spices, quite full bodied for the style, but not so tasty as a weizen could be. Some touch of artificial additives. Finishes with those oranges, banana and peach. A good Hefeweizen, but of course there are better.
