Commercial Description:
Schöfferhofer German Wheat Beer Hefeweizen is brewed in Bavarian tradition using wheat malt. The live yeast gives bottle "conditioning" guaranteeing a refreshing fruity flavor. The yeast sediment also leads to the "cloudy" nature of the beer. Care needs to be taken when pouring. Tilt glass and poor slowly. Before pouring last quarter, roll bottle gently back and forward until sediment is dissolved.

I like hefe’s and this was my mainstay in my recent trip to Germany. I had a lot of good hefe’s there, but this was definitely the one that I drank the most and had the most positive impression of. The dunkel variety is good also.

Pretty average hefe. Had all the requisite characteristics of the style, cloudy, light colored appearance, good head and head retention,. A good beer, but nothing really stood out to make it excellent.

Bottle at the Hotel Nikko, Dusseldorf. Cloudy orange colour with a large white head. Wheaty fruity aroma. Fruity flavour (apples). Pretty decent wheat beer. I’d like to try it on draught.

On tap at the Onyx Bar on Friedrichsplatz in Mannheim (www.onyx-mannheim.de). Served to me with a lemon in my glass in this very non-traditional German bar near the Congress Center. Very thick head. Golden-amber-orange in color depending on the time of day and light (This was the only fass beer choice at many places we went in Mannheim, so I had it a lot). Very smooth and drinkable. Rich malty and wheat flavor. I would never call this beer "standard", but then again, I don’t live in Frankfurt!

Hazy golden colour with nice big head. Aroma is malty and sweet with a touch of bitterness. Flavor is not overwelmingly sweet. Finish has a nice bitter touch.

Bottle: Poured a very cloudy yellow gold with a massive creamy white head. Strong banana phenolic aroma. Fresh, thick, and spicey with some lemony and bready notes. Spicey flavour with the aroma carrying through including some sublte clove notes. A little watery. Hardly any bitterness, but enough to balance. Creamy and silky feel but a bit sticky at times. Very nice.
