Pours a dark mahogany brown with a frothy, cream colored head that settles quickly to a bubbly edge. Wet, sudsy lacing mostly rejoins the body, with a few scant spots escaping their demise. Aromas include dark chocolate, dry cocoa powder, caramel, toasted oak, and roasted grains. A few traces of earthy hop bitterness come through as well. Flavors drop off a good bit, with dry, dusty cocoa and coffee notes lacking both sweetness and bitterness, kind of falling into a no man’s land in between. Medium to thin bodied and dry, the palate left something to be desired. Decent enough brew, but certainly far from special. TheCheeseMan (539), Saint Cloud, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 15, 2008 SoLan strikes again. Pours a deep rich black, hints of chestnut brown around the edges. Aroma is roasted with slight chocolate and coffee notes, perhaps even a touch of smoke. Flavor is more of the same, with the roasted component leading the charge. I really liked this one. cmillward (434), Orlando, Florida, USA

Pitch black ale with a mid-sized, creamy, deeply tanned head. Incredible retention. The aroma is totally mocha... chocolate and coffee. Medium-bodied with sluggish carbonation. Bland and thin with a restrained offering of coffee grounds and mild acidity. Watery, lightly bitter finish. Kudos to SoLan for the opportunity to try this beer! mcbackus (751), Merritt Island, Florida, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 1, 2008 Courtesy SoLan. Pours black, with a small light brown head. Smells of light peaty smoke and roasty charcoal, with touches of sweet malt and light vanilla. The flavor is pretty roasty and sweet as well. A little light on the body, but it doesnt take away from the flavor whatsoever. Drinks very nice. Some mild chocolate notes blend with the roast to give this brew some character. Nice.
