Opaque with a small creamy head and some lace. The aroma has a lot of espresso and chocolate character along with lighter vapours of oatmeal, smoke, herbal hops, pepper, and tar. The taste has a big initial roasted tone along with a splash of espresso and cacao bitterness. Undertones of prune and flinty flavors. The mouth feel is lively and crisp, biting and refreshing. Not your average smooth oatmeal stout, this big dog has some bite! Crosling (1856), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 21, 2007 Dark color. Full, light brown head. Very impressively aromatic for a low abv Oatmeal Stout. Chocolate, roast & more. Flavors are very powerful, with hints of chocolate and roast. Milky, creamy body. Nice balance. A A+ compared to other Oatmeal Stouts. Ernest (4501), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 20, 2007 Bottle. Head is initially small, fizzy/frothy, brown, mostly diminishing. Body is black (not opaque). Aroma is moderately malty (roasted/charred grain, nuts, chocolate/cocoa, coffee). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Nice malt-specific stuff, but didn’t rock me. SoLan (1427), Orlando, Florida, USA

Nose of rich chocolate and roasted malt, some smores and subtle whole coffee beans, also. Same flavor, somewhat muted. Medium body, smooth and well carbonated at the same time, very easy to drink. Excellent session brew. kramer (2495), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 31, 2007 22 oz bottle, via stoutlover72. Pours a clear black colored body with some mahogany edges. Smallish fizzy brown head faded quickly. The aroma is nicely roasty with lots of oatmeal character. Some burnt malt, coffee, and a light lactic note. Flavor is quite dry and a little astringent. Burnt and roasted malt up front fading to a chalky and bitter finish. The bitterness is more from the malt than the hops. Lots of coffee on the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a slightly oily texture and moderate fizzy carbonation. The oatmeal doesn’t seem to have much of an effect on the body. This was pretty decent, but I found it a little too bitter and astringent. jimbowood (960), Athens, Georgia, USA

This is good for a sweet stout, but doesn’t compare in taste, flavor, and body to some of the imperial stouts on the market today. nolankowal (854), Columbus, Ohio, USA
