(Bottle) Pours a black body with a creamy brown head. Aroma of roastiness, lactose, and cocoa. Flavor of roasted malt, chocolate, toasted oats, and some vanilla in the finish.

22oz bottle acquired in trade with stoutlover72 (thanks!). Poured a dark black color with brown edges and an averaged sized brown head. Aromas of oat, lactose, cocoa, roast, light coffee, and vanilla. A lot going on in the aroma with everything working very well together. Tastes of oats, chocolate, roast, vanilla and verly light coffee. Nice smooth and creamy body. Nice...

Bottle... O-Town Throwdown... Black ale with a mid-sized, wispy, lightly tanned head. Decent retention. Chocolate, vanilla, roasted nut aroma. Dark roasted, singed chocolate flavor. Leans a hair on the bitter side of balance. Medium-bodied and watery with average carbonation. Lengthy, bitter, dry finish. Thanks to Jayg ( I think) for bringing this bottle to the Throwdown!

Bottle sampled on 2/21/07: Pours a nearly opaque dark mahogany with a thin, spotty-lacing light tan head. Sweet roasted, toasty dark caramel malty aroma has a touch of earthy oats. Body starts fairly full and sweet with some slightly fruity, toasty caramel flavor and a smooth, earthy, roasty finish. A nice brew.

Bottle. Head is initially small, fizzy/frothy, brown, mostly diminishing. Body is black (not opaque). Aroma is moderately malty (roasted/charred grain, nuts, chocolate/cocoa, coffee). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Nice malt-specific stuff, but didn’t rock me.

Draft at the brewpub. Black with a tan head. Smells like smooth toasted, burnt malt. Tastes that way. Not harsh. Perhaps a bit thin, but good flavor, perhaps even a trace of smoke.
