2004 vintage thanks to Alan! The beer pours to a dark amber/orange body with a very thin white head. The aroma is aged toffee, oak, aged hops, and is buttery. The flavor is intensely oaken. Aged toffee and buttery biscuits. The palate is a bit sticky. Rich buttery palate.

Gorgeous pour. Thin, crisp white head, fully diminishing. Deep ruby/mahogany body, translucent. Aroma is at first fruity malts, followed by graham crackers, cinnamon, smoke, cherries, coconut, pound cake, oak barrel, vanilla and piney hops. Lemon rind is faintly detectable, as is chocolate butter. Just a fantastic aroma! Flavor is more of the same, additions including cookie dough and scotch whisky malt character. The malts are very sweet, never cloying. Finishes lightly spicy from lingering hop resins, then semi-sweet and eventually boldly drying, all in one lovely sip. Palate is robust but creamy, full bodied and unforgiving, unrelenting in its complexities. Alcohol warmth is substantial. Very good barleywine from a most impressive brewer.

Courtesy aspidites and stoutlover72. 2005. Beautiful deep ruby pour topped by 1.5cm of dense, frothy off white head. Gorgeous. Heavy, sweet barleywine nose- rich caramel/toffee malt, oak, alcohol, light vanilla, and subtle cotton candy or coconut. Similar flavor with some dried dark fruits, sherry, subtle whisky- my guess is a highland malt, cookies, more alcohol, and some hops in the second half and finish- light floral spicyness and big time resin. Full body, balanced yet lightly viscous. Excellent barleywine. And yes, I dislike socialists.

Courtesy the one who dislikes socialists. Pours a gorgeous ruby red with a very light white head. Smells of coconut, caramel, and sweet malts. Very rich smelling. Very rich caramel flavor. Lovely butterscotch candy just flows from the flavor. Very nice. Very creamy taste, just rolls off of the tongue. The aftertaste is like you just got done eating a buterscotch piece of candy. I really dug this beer. Mad props.

2004 Vintage: This beer poured a clear amber/dark orange color with a thin off-white head. There was a very big woody aroma with a moderate amount of vanilla and moderate amount of alcohol. Some sweet fruity malt shows itself. the flavor was fruity and sweet. Malt dominated english style BW. Very warming with some alcohol pepper taste on the finish. medium bodied.

Valley Brew tasting Feb 2007 - 2005 vintage - Aroma and flavor are oak, earthy hops, leather and maple syrup with a touch of vanilla. Palate is clean and alcohol is well hidden. Very tasty.

"Draft". Rich amber beer with a low off-white head. Rich malt aroma with some caramel and sweetness. Rich malt flavor with dried fruit, vanilla, and oak. Long whiskey/bourbon taste that doesn’t overpower. Everything comes together VERY nicely.

Draft at The Bistro’s BA Beer Fest 11/11/06; 2004 Vintage, Nose is sweet, spicy, caramelly friut, with a small hop presence; dark amber with only a few bubbles for a head; flavor of bourbon, vanilla, and oak mixed with caramel and fruit.
