TPaliga (212), Munster, Indiana, USA Apr 9, 2008 Nice dark pour with thin tan head. Aroma of chocolate. Thin and watery with biscuity malt and bitter chocolate. Not horrible, but not my favorite. shintriad (687), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 3, 2008 They didn’t really outdo themselves on the marketing front, did they? Nevertheless, this is a decent-looking beer, but quite flat. Somewhat sour and thin, but disguised by the overwhelming surfeit of chocolate, coffee and roasted flavours. A bit of hops. No alcohol was noticed at all. I liked it, although it’s a bit cheap. They just tossed in some sweet malt flavourings and forgot about the rest. hopdog (4569), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 29, 2007 341ml bottle shared courtesy of dickinsonbeer. Poured a dark, dark brown color (almost black) with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of roast, chocolate, caramel, and somewhat floral. Tastes of the same with some dark fruits. TomDecapolis (2420), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 29, 2007 Thanks to dickinsonbeer. Pours a deep brown with a smaller bubbly/creamy lighter tan head that left some lace. Aroma of caramel, some orange, chocolate, floral notes a bit leathery. Flavor of dark fruits, cocoa notes, chocolate, some hops, alcohol really not there. pootzboy (863), Calgary/ Kitchener, Alberta, Canada Oct 6, 2007 bottle:
Poured a black opaque ale with a 2 finger mocha cap which has short retention and goes to a surface lace.
Aroma is Musty-sweet with dried fruits, chocolate, some leafy floral hops...and our old nemesis fusil alcohol.
Profile is like so many other Imps; roast cocoa, coffee, dried fruits, chewing tobacco, piney/cedar hops...long wet charred finish...but this one hides its alcohol in the flavor very well....but it has this incredulous subtle smoke to it that carries through the entire profile.
Probably the first Schoune beer I enjoyed.
