Amber and somewhat reminiscent of some porters. Joy to find (by far not as big as Diebels or Frankenheim, but luckily a lot more available than Duessel or Schluessel). downender (2587), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 17, 2008 From the barrel at Zeitgeist @ The Jolly Gardeners, Lambeth 16/5/08. Deep amber with a slight, off-white head. Aroma of fruity malt, earthy hops and a hint of caramel. Flavour was bitter, with more fruit and grassy hops, some green herbs and a touch of wood, before a light, bitter finish. Enjoyable. Ethereal (1500), London, Greater London, England
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 2, 2008 Draught at the Battersea Beer Festival, 7th Feb 2008. Amber with a good head. Aroma is a mix of German hops and wet socks but the flavour is a nice mix of woody and malty notes with some herbs as well. It really fills the mouth and has a long lingering finish. Quite different from other German beers I’ve tried. My notes say "German Real Ale?" Finn (1510), Tromsø, Norway

Sourish roasted flavor. A dry "heavy" malty aftertaste developing. duff (5475), Surrey, Greater London, England

Finish shows some grassy hops in the finish. Drinkable if a little unexciting. MesandSim (5851), London, Greater London, England
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 11, 2008 A Mes rate: Bottle at Battersea Beer Festival. Rich amber colour with a good off white head. Nice sweet malt aroma with some lovely herbacious notes but a slightly stale hint is holding it back, possibly a 7. Flavour has a definite chlorine note. Rich malt, lots of herbs, grainy, slightly earthy and sadly a bit of paper. Possible 5. Can’t make my mind up about this one. Something I am sure about is that it’s not outstanding. Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting.
Body is medium to dark amber.
Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly hoppy (herbs), moderately yeasty (dough).
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter.
Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
The raw yeasty nose really hurts this one. Not one of the better examples in town, but ok.
