Poured a very dark brown that’s almost red when held up to the sunlight. Beige head that disappeared too quickly for my liking and no lacing. Smell wasn’t very impressive but did have some roasted coffee to it. Flavor was pretty good with some bitter cocoa, smoke, and coffee. A little too watery for a great score. Drinkable.

bottle, bought to marinate the wild boar joint and try the rest. Clear darkish brown colour, large beige head. Watery, bitter with only the tiniest hints of caramel and bitter chocolate. No hints of malt. For my taste not even good to marinate the wild boar - used Lobkowicz dar beer instead.

(BBE 12/08) Near black colored with medium sized beige head. Aroma is roasted with slight cardboard, sweet caramel is also here. Medium bodied. Flavor is also roasted with more cardboard and grains, aftertaste dries with hops. Slightly watery beer.

Swing top bottle as shown. Poured dark and had nice roasty notes. Body could have been bigger, but a nice swartz

Bottle 50cl. w. swing top.
Clear dark red brown color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, chocolate, sea water notes. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20081016]

A clear black colored beer, with a thick foamy beige head. The aroma of a little roasted malts with caramel and a little fruity. The taste of roasted malt with dark fruits like raisin. It is some bitter with a little sweet. The aftertaste is dry and some bitter.

500ml bottle, courtesy of Ben at Hangar 24. Dark brown pour. Dark roasty aroma that fades pretty quickly. Not a whole lot of flavor, goes down the gullett pretty fast.

Sampled from 500ml swing top bottle and shared by joebrew during Surly D-day. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with an average sized tan head that has a nice retention and spotty lacing. Aroma of toasted dark malts, some molasses, dark chocolate and coffee. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with flavors of toasted dark malts, light coffee, some sweet molasses and bittersweet chocolate. Finish has a mild bitterness with a slowly disappearing toasted dark malt aftertaste. Everything expected in a schwarzbier with a little bitterness in the end.
