Nose of nice robust chocolate and fig. Lagered, very underastringent, thin body, lightly metallic, subtle roast and char. Flavor is lacking, not too exciting past the nose. Thin finish. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Apr 17, 2007 Black beer, amber highlights, with beige head and coffee-caramel aroma. Somewhat hoppy for a schwarz, which are usually lots of style with very little substance. Dark malts and caramel in the flavor. Light in the mouth, managing thin without being watery. Welcomed bitter finish. frankenkitty (1903), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA

Cola colored, rather flat. An off-white head doesn’t last long except for a skinny film. We were told to serve this close to room temperature, but that still did little to bring out the aromatics... light, dry roastiness, mild worty notes, a touch of sourness and metal and some mild coffee. Thinly flavored also with roasted malts leading the way to mild licorice and a light sourness. Wholly unimpressive. A world-reknowned beer reviewer lists this as one of his "top 500 beers in the world", and I begin to question his credibility.

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Mar 28, 2007 Bottle. Light brown fluffy high head. Clear dark red body. Dry and peppey roasted malt aroma. Peppery flavor seeming to have a lot of carbonation. Not swee berries as expected, actually I find it relatively bitter although with a thin body.
